" If Vincent Tan sold Cardiff City now... "

Wed Mar 01, 2017 12:31 pm

Since Vincent Tan has been involved with Cardiff City, the club have made it to a League Cup final, the Championship play-offs, been controversially rebranded, been promoted to the Premier League and relegated from the Premier League.

A couple of questions for all on here.

If Vincent Tan sold Cardiff City now, would the fans thank him for the good he's done or will his reign be clouded by the decision to re-brand the club?

Would Vincent Tan leave the club in a better condition as to when he arrived?

After all, the sign of a good owner and a good run club is a football club that is self-sufficient.

Obviously this is all hypothetical...

a lot would depend on what's done with debt if he left? Not sure why people have said worse off as hypothetical we will be debt free as that's tans ultimate plan when he leaves. :occasion5:

lol shit i read it as would we be in a better place if he left than if he stayed, i.e. currently, not when he joined

Impossible to tell as it would depend on the level of debt, although Tan has said he would only leave us in good hands with someone who could progress us. We wouldn't have Langston trying to liquidate us so I would have to say better off. Personally though I really hopes he stays and continues the good work of the last couple of seasons to make us self sufficient.

Wez,I think you have misinterpreted the meaning or I have  I've taken the meaning as we'd be far worse off if Tan sold up now. :?

Not sure if anyone would take this club on with the current debt. Still a huge amount outstanding and as far as I am aware only a small percentage of this debt has been converted to equity.

Presumably it means would we be worse off than when tan 1st took over?

For me, i can say without hesitation, we would be in a worse place. Don't believe all you read, he has raped the club and has earned a lot of money from it with cup runs, parachute payments, premier league etc., I will never forgive him for that tuesday night, he has ripped our once proud club apart. The sooner he is gone the better. :bluebird:

Re: " If Vincent Tan sold Cardiff City now... "

For goodness' sake give it a rest. For the first time since we got promoted to the Premier League we are playing good football, but still the usual moaners have to have a go at Tan and the owners, distracting from what is happening on the field.

Be careful what you wish for - you could end up well worse off, like with the Venkys at Blackburn, or even SISU at Coventry. Or those people at Chrlton who are running it as a feeder club for their team in the Belgian League.

Lets leave well alone and get on with the football.

So he sells up leaves us with no debt as he's indicated he would do and we would be in a worse place according you?? Mmmm ok. :sad5:

I have an open mind about this. my concern is he has said he will leave us with no debts. I am not sure how he will achieve this, but at the present rate taking into account how much our debts have been reduced since he said that, it is going to take a very long time before we are debt free. Not sure how long, but taking into account our running costs and the small amount that has been converted to equity so far, probably not in my lifetime.

There is a plan in place of about 5yrs due to ffp rules can't go any quicker ? he's already started process by converting some debt but being held up in Malaysia apparently so yes probably take longer if he stays with us! But Think when it's at manageable level then he will seriously consider selling up! :old:

I have wondered about this. Obviously if the £64m conversion is pasted by the Malaysian authorities that will make a huge dent. That apart VT has so far converted only £8m (the maximum under FFP) with presumably another £8m due in the next accounts which are published soon which equates to £16m out of £130m.

Also complicating the matter is VT is presumably funding the club to a further £5m (the maximum under FFP) as we are told the club is losing £1m per month or £12m per year. Is this £5m 'new debt' or is it gifted to the club? If it is new debt then the actual mark down is only £3m or £6m since he started the process. If the debt is being reduced by only £3m per year then it will take 43 years to pay off the debt or 22 years if the £64m is pasted by the Malaysian authorities.

Combined with the fact that he has had the advantage of parachute payments with I believe only one more remaining, I am curious as to his plans to completely clear the debts by 2020, or I think he said 2020. I can't see how myself, particularly as this club normally runs at a loss each year. Be interesting to see how things pan out, but as you stated, only a small dent has been made so far, and at the present rate it will take many years to become debt free.

Steve I'm sure tan will know all this and would have taken this into account when he put his plan in place? Guess we will have to wait further down the line as to if/when debt swap is going to be finished?

I suppose that's where opinions differ. Nothing wrong there, we all have different opinions. Personally, once we changed to red that was no longer the Cardiff City I recognised, and that is why I still have'nt seen us play in the top division. I compare it along the lines of for example someone putting a Mini shaped body onto a chassis, calling it a Mini when we know it is nothing like a real Mini, it is a BMW with a weird body that bears no resemblance to what the original was all about. I am not one who holds a grudge as Tan on the face of it looks to be trying to put things right. As I said somewhere else, I will judge him at the end of his reign, and when we see what state this business is in when he finally leaves. Things are looking reasonable now, but we all know how quickly things can change in football - Leicester fans can tell us a bit about that, hero to zero in no time.

i think fans sang Bluebirds long before there was ever a Bluebird on the shirts.and continued to while in red.
Cardiff City of course played in red for a while but were still Cardiff City,in the same stadium, for the same price, same players, manager, fans. programe sellers.
goodness knows how some people would deal with life changing things happening to them because being red for 2 and a half years was not one.

Just got back in and it looks like many City fans feel the same as me.

If Tan left today,we would be in far worse debt than when he arrived a fact and a squad worth less than when he arrived.
Plus a fan base still not happy and divided less fans attending than before he arrived home and away.
