Neil Warnock says Plymouth Argyle are ‘delighted’ with Cardiff loanee Matthew Kennedy who has hit the ground running at Home Park.
Matthew Kennedy is seizing his opportunity with League Two club Plymouth Argyle, scoring three goals in his first five appearances.
Plymouth are chasing promotion, and indeed the league title – they currently sit three points behind league-leaders Doncaster Rovers with a game in-hand.
Kennedy joined Argyle late in the January window and with three in five, including a stunner against Hartlepool, as well as a couple of assists, he’s desperate to prove himself.
Speaking on Friday, Neil Warnock had his say on the in-form winger. He said: “I’ve spoken to him a few times – he scored a great goal at Hartlepool last week. They are absolutely delighted with him and they needed someone like that to spark something and get them over the line.
“If it hadn’t have been Plymouth, then I probably would have kept him but it would have been for the wrong reasons, because he probably wouldn’t have played much, only coming off the bench and he needed to play 15 games before the end of the season.
“I’m getting DVDs of his games sent over to me and he’s doing ever so well.”
The Scottish winger joined Cardiff back in 2015 on a free transfer from Premier League club Everton and Warnock says he may yet have a future at the club.
“I don’t know yet whether he can come into my team and get a regular place but he’s far more in my plans,” Warnock added.
“He’s got that confidence and he was playing with that with us before he left as well. He can score goals too and he’s showing that, so it will be interesting to see how he does.
“He’ll probably come back and have a good pre-season with us, and then we’ll make a decision about him, because there are probably a number of clubs who would take him tomorrow.”
The Bluebirds’ boss was asked whether Plymouth would like to sign Kennedy whether that was a case of a loan extension, or a permanent move.
Warnock replied: “Oh yes they would, but they’ll have to pay more money than what they’re paying now!”.
