The ref today

Sat Feb 25, 2017 9:07 pm

We have had some very poor officials this season and today's ref and the linesman on the Ninian side were right down there.

In the first half there were two incidents with Kadeem. Firstly he won the ball in a shoulder to shoulder challenge with a Fulham player in our half and a free kick is given against him. Then later in the first half he was shoulder barged off the ball in the Fulham penalty area and nothing was given.

It's the inconsistency that frustrates the most. If these officials are supposed to be competent at Championship level what on earth must the officiating be like in League 1 and 2? :o

Spot on Chris. Every week there's somebody on here blaming the ref for something or other. They're referees ffs, they make the odd mistake and the odd decision you don't agree with. It happens all over the country.

Had to laugh yesterday, there was a guy sat near me that freaked out when the ref didn't give a free kick for a foul on Harris in the first half. He jumped up, frothing at the mouth screaming and spitting at the ref. Swearing at him and steam almost literally coming out of his ears when 5 seconds later the ref blew and pulled it back for no advantage!!
He sat down quickly looking very embarrassed!

I have noticed on this forum over the years that if we fail to win a game the ref is usually one of the reasons. When we win, the ref rarely gets a mention.

I didn't think the ref was that bad at first.
He was letting a lot go which was good.
Although he did let them kick lumps out of Harris and somehow most fans missed the point where Harris should have had a pen right at the beginning.
He got the ball across and got wiped out by a very late tackle.

But it's football. The refs need more help

The point of my original post was more critical of the standard of officiating in general in the Championship than a particular comment on the ref yesterday, although I did think he was poor.

Paul, that guy is typical! LOL

Had one in our area yesterday after I moved back out of the rain. Egged on by his e was shouting some garbage all through the game (often at the referee) that simply didn't make sense. The oddest of these (and I'm still trying to work it out) was something close to "Ref, you short, baldy t**t. Your not fit to..." (and then there was a pause as he thought about something 'clever' he could add) before "...fit in my pants!" came out!

The mind boggles! :laughing6:

Standards seem to be worse than previous seasons , will say while he was fairly poor he was consistent in that he turned down pens for both teams!

I didn't come away from the game thinking the referee was that bad. I thought he was a bit fussy but no more than that.

I thought he let a bit go and Holiett and Harris threw themselves to the ground later on as they were knackered.

My main ref gripe is the ones that blow up every five mins. They are the ones ruining the game.
