Pretty much what the fella above has said and he is being generous.
We had a 7-8 year peak which all started after the FA Cup Final when they did that thing that if you bought a season ticket you would get a Cup Final ticket plus the 5 year price freeze culminating in the 5 years of 'almost making it to the Premiership'.
If you go back through time since the 60's our average attendance for this level of Football fluctuates from anything between 21,000 when towards the top and as low as 4,500 when at the bottom.
We are getting more now for this level than when we first came up from Division 2, we are getting more than we were getting at the same level in the 60's and 70's and absolutely smashing what we were getting at this level in the 80's.
We are mid-table in the second tier, we will get around 15-17,000 today depending on what Fulham bring, we have come a long way and our crowds have increased dramatically, the only people that are staying away are the ones who will only come back if we get to the Premiership, nobody else is staying away, in fact more and more are coming.
People who think we are suddenly going to get 20,000+ against Fulham whilst mid-table are living in cloud cuckoo land mate, not trying to be disrespectful by saying that but it's true. We havn't go the fans for it and never have.

Cracking post, and spot on with what you say, why are people making such a fuss about it. I'm not going today, it's raining and I like the Egg, the Pub beckons. It wouldn't make any difference to me if we were top either.

I think you can't compare historical crowds to where we are today. Demographically we have a much larger fan base that in the past, so much so we probably have an extra 200,000 people in our catchment area of say 20 years ago. In addition, we are more of a family club now that ever before where the City is a safe place to take women and children and the facilities on offer at the stadium we play in are 5 star UEFA rated.
It pains me when I read posts like yours as they have no substance what so ever in the contents.

Well the facts are, that our average crowds in recent times are faily impressive. So much so that we would probably sell out the stadium if we were promoted to the Premier League in the next year or so.
What part of the above statistics gives you the impression that we can't achieve 18,000 season tickets when we have previously?
When you talk about division 4 days, the fan base was mainly young men and OAP's as the place was not ideal for families and young supporters. I started going in 84,and it was kicking off every game.
