In the Brexit capital,
where the Tories backed off and
against the worst Labour party for a few decades,
they could NOT win.
Ironically, the only place the English nats can be win seats is in Wales.
Maybe one day we'll grow some balls and start voting for parties based in Wales ay

maybe one day you'll grow up and stop blaming England for everything. You should move to Glasgow there's plenty of small minded clowns up there who think Braveheart is a documentary, you'd fit in really well.

UKIP must be really disappointed at not taking Stoke as Labour seems to be doing all it can these days to lose any kind of election. If UKIP are to continue then maybe their strategy of targeting the working class vote may have to change and instead they should target their more natural support who are the disaffected anti-European/Immigration Conservative voters.

It would be great to think they're finished but I have a feeling they'll be skulking around for a little while yet. However they're a one trick band of ponies so there's no future for them long term

I'm a Labour voter, but surprised that UKIP didn't win in Stoke last night - and only just about came second. They were up against a terrible Labour candidate. I know there were a lot of stories about Nuttall and his website, but can't imagine that made that big of a difference.
Not shocked that the Tories won in Copeland either, the signs had been pointing to that.
I've supported Corbyn, voted for him last year but not in the 2015 election, and will continue to do so. But the sad thing is he's not winning over voters who aren't socialists or 100% Labour already.
Anyone who thinks Labour could even come close to winning the next election at the moment must be on something.

For the vast majority of voters UKIP are a one issue party. That issue is resolved and its not surprising they're struggling. If brexit continues as it currently is they'll be all but wiped out at the next election. The tories missed a huge opportunity yesterday. If they'd gone with a more experienced and creditable candidate they could gone very close to taking Stoke - never in my lifetime and all that. Yesterday was as much a vote on Thereza May's premiership as anything else. If she went to the country now she'd have a post Falklands Thatcher type landslide.

UKIP have done their job,Brexit, but there is no coherent mantra on their future direction, are they raving Thatcherites or old trade unionists, the second is a jump into fairy tales.
Labour have always been a broad church with many branches meaning a lot of things to many people.
Over the last two decades the old trade unionists have been moved out for social liberals. The Guardian is more important than the Daily Mirror even though it has 5 times the readership to the Labour leadership nowadays.
Labour needs to split, because it nothing to anyone. They lost Richmond to the libs in rich suburban London and to the Tories in Cumbria. This is far more than Progress Vs Momentum, both don't represent South Wales or the other heartlands needs.
I can see another decade of the tories as apathy is the only vote for labours heartlands.

So lets get this straight - The Labour part is a church with many branches that needs splitting.. because its nothing to anyone.
Glad that's cleared up...

Made sense at the time
I'll put it simpler.
Labour are fucked but not as much as UKIP. They'll lose seats in Cardiff and the vale as the tories are a viable alternative for the constituents but not in the valleys as there is no alternative. Even though Chris Bryant and Owen Smith (my MP) have nothing in common with their respective constituents, and lets not kid ourselves the plaid are anything but a west Wales fringe party.
UKIP in the assembly were a protest vote, they'll barely get a mention next elections.
