Modern football arrives at Penydarren park

And sadly not in a good way,Merthyr played Hitchin last night in a top of the table clash hugely important of course to both teams but what l witnessed was a team intent on influencing the officials at every opportunity by any means possible one incident that stood out for me was a challenge near the touch line between Traylor and the Hitchin number three, the ball goes out of play with both players claiming the throw in,the linesmen rules the throw in to Hitchin,no problem with that but it provocs a reaction from the Merthyr lad who does swear at the linesman but the linesman does nothing preferring to let the incident go,but what happens next l could not believe the left back says to the linesman your not gonna let him talk to you like that are you, know I've seen some incidents at this level that have made me wince, some of the tackles that have gone unpunished by refs would make your eyes water but players get up and get on with it but to see what l saw last night from what are semi pro footballers was very sad.Anyway thankfully Merthyr came from behind to snatch a point despite being down to ten men

I'm not sure I have a problem with that. The laws are clear for foul and abusive language and players get away with it far too often.

To be honest I'm finding the whole footballers sticking together is wearing a bit thin this week. We all, they all, in fact absolutely everyone hates simulation. Last Saturday we saw the most blatant act of simulation caught on camera. You have to give players the benefit of the doubt even in some cases where you know they don't deserve it. Last Saturday Joey Barton left no doubt but his fellow professionals have let him off scot-free. The footballing media haven't been much better either. He should have been taken to the cleaners.

So are you saying the Merthyr player shouldnt have done it or is your view more about the Hitchin players words?

I actually don't see anything wrong in what the Hutchinson player said tbh. He was remarking on the abuse he'd just had from the Merthyr player. Good on him I say. Even if it did lead to the Merthyr lad being sent off. I absolutely hate dissent :old:

no sorry if l miss lead you but when the ball went out of play and the Lino flagged for throw to Hitchin the Merthyr boy reacted in the heat of the moment (rightly or wrongly) but his abuse was at the Lino not the player l was shocked that at this level the Hitching player tried to influence the Lino to take action against the Merthyr player,to me it was no different to players gesturing by waving an imaginary card at a ref to get an opponent booked.

I see your point.
If the Merthyr player had acted correctly there would be no problem.
Both wrong in my eyes.
Instant card for any verbals to officials would stop it. If they carry on, make it a ref. Would be chaos for first couple of weeks but would soon settle when players knew the score.

Totally agree, but players will always contest decisions however ridiculous they appear to be,as for abusing officials though that's something that football needed to address ,problem is that like last night the Lino did nothing as they seem to have been conditioned to accept dissent from players he could easily have flagged and called the ref over to deal with the problem but obviously didn't believe it was serious enough, but as for the action of the Hitchin player l think What he did was equally wrong and more disappointing for me
