Talks Are Progressing Over Warnock's Future

The club know backing Warnock is their best option and IMO I believe Warnock will be here next season :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Neil Warnock: Progress made in talks over Cardiff manager's future

By Rob Phillips
BBC Wales football correspondent

Talks over manager Neil Warnock's future at Cardiff City are progressing, according to club sources.

The former Leeds United and Rotherham boss has been seeking assurances over the club's close-season transfer policy before committing to a new deal.

Warnock, 68, whose contract ends in the summer, had a meeting with Bluebirds chairman Mehmet Dalman on Monday.

A club source has told BBC Wales Sport "progress" was made during the informal discussions.

Cardiff were in the relegation zone when Warnock took over in October, but have moved up to 12th in the Championship after three successive victories.

Before Saturday's 5-0 win over Rotherham United, Dalman told BBC Wales Sport he was confident of keeping Warnock - ahead of Monday night's meeting.

Owner Vincent Tan will have to consider Financial Fair Play regulations when agreeing to make funds summer available in the summer.

Providing Tan gives the go ahead, the club hierarchy will be keen to reach a new agreement with Warnock as soon as possible.

Haha sorry I beat you to it, yes even though it doesn't seem like a lot, just that word "progress" in my opinion means the club are trying to do what that can to keep Warnock here, it also means to me that they are coming to an understanding of what Warnock believes he will need to build a squad thats adequate to challenge at the top of the league.

I think it will just be a matter of time before they agree on what Warnock will be able to have for next season, then it's just down to Warnock if he believes he can take us places with what they agree on.

I think he's a man his word and if he's happy with what the board offer him as a budget then he will sign a contract with us for next season at least. I dont think, like some rumours suggest, he would just leave us for Villa if they offer him a few mill more than us I think if he's happy with the budget he will stay here as openly said he want's to earn promotion and that he really enjoys it here with the club and fans.

Just hope that word "progress" does'nt mean the same as that other old chestnut, "the manager has my full support and I have every confidence in him". We all know what that one means.

Warnock knows how to play office politics better than our lot, so any messing about and we will know about it.
He's already positioned all the support he has so he's made it bleeding obvious for them.
Hopefully it's a matter of the accountants and money men working a way through the FFP rules and you would expect Tan to have a few experts that, hopefully, the football authorities agree with.

How long do these FairPlay regulations go on for surely we should now be alright as we have got rid of most our big earners. How do other clubs manage who have and are still spending big money in the championship.
Is it just an excuse not to spend to try and get back up to the Premiership again as Tan has no interest in the club!

No

FFP is a real constraint and the penalties for non-compliance are getting harsher.

Cardiff are paying for bad decisions (and ongoing costs for players no longer at the CCS) over the last 3 years.

Tan is still spending a small fortune on the club and (appears to be) following through on his 'debt to equity' promises - or at least he will be (after the first £8m last year) when he gets the OK from the Malaysian regulatory authorities.

I suspect a number of other Championship clubs are gambling with FFP and losing - and will fall foul - but some of them have generated income as well as spending in recent windows.

well explained but it wont stop a few more claiming FFP is just an excuse for Tan to not spend.

Well said. Our match day revenue in 2014/15 was £5.7m. We averaged 20k and that still wasn't enough to fund the transfer fees Warnock wants alone.

Our wage bill was over £30m. God knows what's going to happen when the parachute payments stop.

The word progressing means that we havent agreed anything yet and talks are on going.
I'm sure he will get some good offers in the summer.

Correct they are right at the beginning with nothing agreed yet, just plenty of talk so far.

That's the way I see it. The fact that a meeting was held last weekend and nothing has been announced suggests absolutely nothing has been decided yet. The optimistic fans are saying only positive signs are coming from the club, but to be honest you would not expect anything other than a positive spin from the club. It would cause uproar from the fans if they said anything negative about the meeting. I prefer to take the realistic approach, and obviously that is that as nothing has been publicly stated yet, no one of us outside the club knows what lies ahead. All I can do is the same as everybody else and hope for the best, but until the club comes out and confirms he has accepted their plans, nothing would surprise me whichever way things go.

I agree that figures are not going to be made public. However, a brief statement along the lines of after positive talks between the manager and club, Warnock has decided to stay with us for next season in an attempt to achieve his target of another promotion. That would not be giving anything away, and would give a boost to players and fans, and I am sure help with ticket sales as well. If an agreement has been reached, I can't see any reason why Warnock cannot be confirmed as our manager for next season. If he has decided to stay, what's the difference in telling us now or at the end of the season.

Maybe it's because club is in negotiations with various fringe players about leaving at end season and everyone is waiting until things a bit clearer? After all NW himself refered to moving players on before budget can be sorted! So prudent to wait until then before statement is made. :occasion5:

I see what you mean Alan, but if that is the reason and the budget has not yet been agreed because of players having to moved on, would'nt that suggest that nothing has yet been agreed between the club and Warnock. What if we cannot offload all the unwanted deadwood? I'm not saying that's the case, just putting another slant on things as I think you may well be right, and if you are, I doubt if anything has been agreed yet as Warnock has linked our budget to him staying or leaving.

Think the telling quote NW said was we are on same wavelength and are progressing ? Only problem can forsee is players not leaving and the budget wont be enough to purchase the players he wants because of ffp rules, then upto NW if he can work with the limited funds! It Won't be because of backing by club think that's been established club are backing him.

Glad this has been announced now, Could'nt see any reason for it to be delayed once an agreement had been reached. This will be a boost for the players and the fans. It won't mean clubs will increase the price of any players Warnock may be interested in, as the club has made it clear that there is not a massive war chest to play with. Good news all round, and should help season ticket sales as well. I think there is every chance we will be competing towards the top of this division this time next year with a clever bit of wheeling and dealing from Warnock.
