Wayne Shaw agrees to leave Sutton Utd after investigations are opened into his pie eating during the club's game against Arsenal.

The reserve goalkeeper admitted he knew Sun Bets were offering 8-1 odds on him eating the pastry prompting the Gambling Commission and the Football Association to look into whether the incident broke any rules.

Sutton United manager Paul Doswell told Sky News he had asked Shaw to leave the club and he had agreed.

Nicknamed the 'Roly Poly Goalie' because of his 20st weight, 46-year-old Shaw was also employed as part of the coaching team.

The Gambling Commission says it is investigating whether there was a breach of betting regulations during Arsenal's FA Cup win over Sutton.

Before Monday's game, a bookmaker offered odds of 8-1 that Sutton reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw would eat a pie on camera during the match.

The 46-year-old did so in the 83rd minute while standing by the substitutes' bench.

Shaw said after the match that the incident was "a bit of banter".

Asked whether he knew if anyone had taken up the bet, he told the Daily Mail: "I think there were a few people. Obviously we are not allowed to bet. I think a few mates and a few of the fans."

The Gambling Commission, which licenses and regulates gambling in Britain, says it looking into whether there was any "irregularity in the betting market and establishing whether the operator has met its licence requirement to conduct its business with integrity".

"Integrity in sport is not a joke and we have opened an investigation to establish exactly what happened," said enforcement and intelligence director Richard Watson.

Whilst it's just a bit of fun, there's no question he's done wrong here and he could be in a fair bit of trouble, in my opinion.

I'm annoyed and disappointed. Annoyed that nobody tipped me off and therefore disappointed I did'nt have fifty bucks on it.Could have gone toward my season ticket.

Unless it was a Clarke's Pie then the bet should be null and void as Clarke's is the only true meat pie in existence.

It appears he's only in trouble if he or other people involved with club put a bet on it happening! Other than that he's is been a prat considering the magnate of game and the audience.

Stories coming out of Sutton are that he did it for a bet and I find that amusing!

Of course, those stories might have been a little confused and he may have done it for a Betta Pie, although I find that hard to swallow after being subjected to those for so long at Ninian Park! LOL

Pah. Why the f**k are bookies putting on ridiculous bets if they throw their toys out when they loose? End of the day he may not have anything to do with whether other people put money down he's just taking the piss. It's like making a bet available that Warnock is going to kick a water bottle then doing him if he does.
