"What if" Table prediction for a full Warnock season

Neil Warnock has overseen a remarkable turnaround since taking over at Cardiff City and it’s left the fans thinking ‘What if?’.

Cardiff City demolished strugglers Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon to make it three wins on the bounce for the second time this season.

The win meant the Bluebirds consolidated their position in the top half of the Championship table and while some fans are setting their sights on the top six, it seemingly remains just out of reach.

The disastrous start under Paul Trollope which saw City pick up just eight points in 11 games means it’s an unrealistic target this term – and that’s something defender Matthew Connolly as well as Warnock have made clear in the last week.

But it hasn’t stopped Cardiff City supporters from wondering ‘what if?’ and ‘if only’ Neil Warnock was appointed just a few weeks earlier.

We can’t predict whether Warnock would have achieved better results than Trollope if he did come in weeks earlier.

However, we can put the Bluebirds’ upturn of form into perspective and find out how the Championship table would look if the season begun when Neil Warnock took the reigns.

And it makes good reading for City;

The Bluebirds would be outside the play-off positions by goal difference if the campaign before Warnock’s first game in October.

It counts for very little of course, but it shows just how far the Bluebirds have come since the veteran boss was brought to South Wales four months ago.

As the table shows, the Bluebirds have collected more points than many of the teams currently vying for a spot in the top six.

Albeit there are a few games in-hand for teams in the table and that’s thanks to the FA Cup, but it’s clear to see that Cardiff would likely be competing among some of the best in the league if Warnock was given a little more time.

And that sends a clear message to the men in charge at Cardiff City that if Warnock is backed over the summer, he has a fantastic chance of guiding the club into a promotion race.

What would it look like if we took our average points per game since NW took over and distributed them backwards to the start of the season?
