Neil Warnock: Happy to stay for two more years at Cardiff

Warnock: 'I feel refreshed'

17/02/17

Neil Warnock:

“I might even do a couple more years here(Cardiff City). I feel refreshed. Rotherham actually gave me that zest back.
“You see a lot of people who are my age and you talk to them and you think they’re about 90. The younger the lads around the place, they keep your mind active. And I want to show people what I can do and bring clubs together. You can’t really do that overnight.
“I might have let my heart rule my head at Rotherham last year. If we agreed terms straight away I might’ve stayed. It was only four weeks later when we’d agreed terms but it was too late, I’d made up my mind.
“Once I shake someone’s hands, that’s the deal done.
“As I said to Mehmet [Dalman], he was concerned I was going somewhere else at the time and tried to get me to sign. But I said ‘don’t worry, I shook your hand’ which means that’s it. It’s how I am.”

Warnock admits he's found renewed belief in his methods

Neil Warnock:

“It’s given me the belief in what I do. I’ve been a manager for 37 years, it’s a long time.
“To still have that enthusiasm and have that desire to want to put one over on people, that’s what I thrive on.
“Also, for Cardiff fans to go home having seen a performance or effort of their team and to be talking about the club again in a good sense rather than a negative sense.
“That’s very important for me to bring the whole club together. It’s not easy at times.”

Neil Warnock: Cardiff City boss keen to stay for promotion bid

BBC

Friday 17th February 2017

Neil Warnock took charge of Cardiff City following Paul Trollope's sacking in October 2016

Neil Warnock has delivered the strongest indication yet he is keen to stay at Cardiff City and mount a promotion challenge next season.

Warnock, 68, has a meeting with chairman Mehmet Dalman next week to discuss his future.

But having steered Cardiff away from the relegation zone during his five-month reign, Warnock says he feels "refreshed".

"I might even do a couple [of years] whatever the situation," he said.

After back-to-back wins on the road against Leeds and Derby, on Saturday Warnock will cross swords with Rotherham, who he saved from relegation last season during a 16-game spell from February until June.

The Millers were keen to keep Warnock last summer and he admits he was close to staying with them.

"Rotherham actually gave me that zest back," he said.

"If I am honest I might have let my heart rule my head at times. If we had agreed terms straight away I think I might have stayed."

Now Warnock feels similarly revitalised having taken over at Cardiff in October.

"It's given me the belief in what I do really. I have been a manger 37 years, that is a long time - more than a lot of my lads have ever been born," he said.

"To still have that enthusiasm and that desire to want to put one over people or managers or clubs. That is what I thrive on.

"The biggest thing is for Cardiff fans to go home having seen a performance or effort of their team and to be talking about the club again in the good sense rather than a negative sense."

'It's nice to be wanted'

Warnock said Cardiff chairman Dalman would provide him with financial details on what funds could be available this summer at a meeting in the next few days.

"We need to know what we can do to be able to bring the three or four players in because we don't have that many players out of contract really, so it is not as straightforward to thin my squad or to do things," Warnock added.

"So its going to be difficult in the next few months to put things in place.

"It is nice to be wanted. The biggest thing coming here was the reaction of the Cardiff fans to me taking over, it was fantastic.

"It would have to be something extreme I have not thought about to take me away from that."

More like it.

I believe he needs these 2 seasons to get us up. Of course that bit depends on being backed.

For him to stay 2 more seasons it must mean somethings in place to his liking.Don't think we'll get anything concrete though until April/May

Neil don't need 2 years. He's thinking of another crack in the Prem. :)

If Tan has any sense, which I think he has now, he will realise that this is his best ever signing.

I hope Tan has realised his mistakes, and that next season we can put everything behind us and look forward to a good future. I have one thing that still worries me though. I think deep down Tan is probably an honorable man, and a man of his word. He made things clear a few years back that money would be made available if the team wore red, and that this would not happen if we were in our traditional blue. I don't think we know his views on that now, but we do know he has rarely visited the CCS since we reverted to our proper colours. I guess we will find out soon enough.

i see your concerns , but we are in blue and although we havent been throwing big transfer fees around we still have big wage bill. i assumed nothing in blue would mean a lot less tbh.

If Mr Tan has any sense he would realise that he made a big mistake in changing the clubs colours, its taboo you just don't change a clubs heritage, you cant change its name or colours, look at Hull, fans just wont accept it, MK Dons could do it, but that's because its basically a new club, not the old Wimbledon!

does this mean the 5 million demand is off then? "promotion push, or I'm off, like"?
