Ken Zohore at Derby

Wed Feb 15, 2017 11:29 pm

I decided to keep one eye on him last night but struggled to do so with all the excitement going on all over the pitch.

What I did see was:

1. When he was on the ball and had a bit of time he quite easily opened up a chance for himself and got his shot on goal. I've been seeing too many similar shots missing the target from others this season.
2. When Derby played it from the back he followed the ball well but let himself down when he should have pressed more forcing pressure on the Derby defence.
3. All strikers are greedy but the best strikers know when to not be selfish. When 3-2 up we were under pressure, Derby committed but lost possession. The ball broke to Zohore who had space to advance from our half towards the Derby goal. As he approach the Derby box he should have passed to his left where there were 2 Cardiff players free. He instead went for goal and although the shot was on target it was a poor effort. His decision making let him down a couple of times.
4. Seemed to win his headers without jumping. Perhaps not a Bothroyd but looks like the closest thing yet.

Summing up if he can keep his place in the starting line up unil the end of the season and learn from it we will have filled one of those striker positions.

He seems to be improving his all round game.

While on the top of the summer transfer shopping list is a striker I hope Zohore is still around and given plenty of opportunities.

Again it goes to show that many players at the club who were under-performing before Warnock arrived was a reflection of the poor coaches and manager rather than their own ability.

There has been a huge improvement in Zahore the last 3 months....still very raw but a handful for most centre halfs.

Hat trick would be class! But would just be glad for him to get 1 or 2 to start.

He's taken some time to bed in but is now comfortable in his role, like all strikers he works on confidence. Agree if he continues improving as he is we have a key player for next season already in our camp.
