We will be safe ? Is the playoffs a step too far this season if we continue our good form ?

Realistically we are almost home and dry safety wise but in respect of play offs, it’s a big ask as there aren’t too many games left remaining plus the likes of Sheffield Wed, Fulham, Barnsley keep picking up points but I like the way Warnock is going about his business not thinking about the play offs, you never know though, football is a funny sport, anything can happen.

In the season we went up Peterborugh were relegated on 54 points. A bit unique as since then the highest relegated points is 44. If we win our next 2 games we will have 48 point, 2 points short of what Warnock reckons we need. However looking at all the alphabetical equations I would lean to the fact we would be fairly save at best from relegation if we were to pick up 6 points from our next 2 games.
Also the same season we went up Leicester qualified for the play off gaining 6th place with 68 point. Thats the lowest play off points spot in the last 6 sesons. This situation is ot surprising as we ran away with the league so basically collecting more points than most chmpionship title winers meaning there were less points distributed across the other teams. This season we have 2 teams running away with it so its comfortable to say 68 points could get you a play off spot.
That means we need to gain 24 points from the remaining 16 games. That works out at 1.5 points a game. So basically we need to win one and lose one to match that. So the baseline is 8 wins 8 loses. Of course that looks possible specially the 8 wins. So get the 8 wins and a few draws from the 8 loses and we could pick up a play off spot. The downside is that if we fail to get 8 wins then we need to pick up 3 draws from the loses. Get only 6 wins and we will need 6 draws from 8 of the loses. 6 win 6 draws 2 loses is basically title winning form. The main focus here is the winning. 8 wins from 16 is good going. In our position the winning gives us hope but lose one of those and the door shuts a lot more.
My opinion is no chance.

Even if we win our next two games and 10th place loose them both, then we're still 11th on goal difference. It's a long way to the playoffs

first task is be safe once we done that we can relax and go for the play offs why I say relax we were doomed and now we are talking play offs so if we miss out no upset after being Trolloped this is a great acheivement

Win these two Home games and we are safe I have no doubt about that. As for the playoffs in my opinion we need to win 12 of our 14 remaining games to have any chance. In other words we need a miracle.
Question is can we finish in the top 10 as in my opinion that would be a fantastic achievement by NW, his backroom staff and of course the players.

Great results this week that gets us near safety. Warnocks a clever guy who knows the play offs are too far off. He wont let these players relax until we get to his safe figure and then i can see him trying more fringe players and different combinations ready for next season.

My £10 bet for promotion may have been wasted but I will accept staying up as a reasonable alternative.
But.....................you never know, a late push and who knows

Wez, play-offs
not an option this season but top 10 would be pretty impressive after where we were when Neil Warnock and his team (let's not forget those guys

) arrived. We all need to moderate our expectations, as this side (as shown in the first half last night) are capable of extreme highs and lows, an inconsistent strike force and a see-saw fan base that only see the result and not the performance as the whole indicator of its worth

The top 6 look on course for 80+ points so its as good as impossible with us only able to get 84 if we win all our remaining games.

Play-offs is extremely unlikely, forget about that. But I believe we'd be up there if Warnock was in charge all season.
We are more or less safe, a couple more wins will seal it.
But a top-half finish is very achievable, which I didn't expect when Warnock came in.

I dont think we're playoff material this season, Warnock has made us a solid championship outfit.
We're 13 points off the playoffs & 13 off relegation. A win Saturday with results going for us at the bottom will be enough I reckon.

14 games to go and we are 13 points behind Wednesday who have a game in hand on us and 15 points behind Leeds.
Plus theres 5 teams in between us and play-offs which include a resurgent Norwich (9 points differece) and Fulham who are 7 points ahead of us with a game in hand.
Three words - Get real Wez.
A top half finish would be remarkable considering where we were heading before Warnock arrived.

When we are safe, Warnock has more or less said we will try a few things out. I think that means we are not considering the playoffs now, just a chance that work towards a promotion push next season and a chance to experiment.

I havnt said we would, I've asked a question

Very true wez .... It's not crap.
However, realistically, we have zero chance IMO.
But then again you thought we'd get automatic under Slade if memory serves me right!

Makes a change to see people being realistic on here. Usually. two defeats and we are on our way to relegation, two wins and we are off to the Premier League. I think we all accept that a mid table finish will be a good result given where we were not so long ago. The six points we have from the last two games should take a lot of the pressure off, although we were never likely to go down when Rotherham, Wigan and Burton have looked likely candidates all season. Throw Bristol and Blackburn into the mix, and the chances of us being relegated are on a par with us being promoted.

We were doomed under Trollope and we were all dreading who Tan and his Merry men would bring in. A top 10 finish would be a phenomenal effort from Warnock and his staff
