Newcastle United Fans? ? ?

Everyone goes on about Newcastle's great/loyal support??

I went to Newcastle v Cardiff 1980, i think the crowd was 14,000 approx incl 130 of us.
Newcastle in them days were only getting 12,000-15,000 crowds in the old 2nd division, where were their 50,000 plus crowds then?

Also they only brought only200 fans to us in the 80's and on the other occssion about 800 fans.

Yet Sunderland brought 10,000 fans to us and Sheffield Wednesday did

See where were Newcastle's so loyal fan base then? ?

Ok we only took 130 fans to them, but they only brought 200 to us, We've never made out we were a Super supported club

Thats what happens when you play in the top division for years and years, it's no mystery?

They have always had big crowds through their history to be fair, they were getting 22,000 when at the bottom of the 2nd Division then Keegan took over when John Hall and co took control and they won the League and jumped up to 30,000, 21 out of 22 seasons in the Premiership later and they have built up a massive fan base again that matches what they were getting in the 50s.

Hopefully that will be us one day, dont think we would ever get the crowds they do but 30-35,000 is probably realistic but it would take years.

They weren't there just like Leeds who a lot like to big up.11000 at Elland road when we went there in the 80s. Same at Chelsea in 81.

Crowds were down throughout most of Football in the 80s to be fair.

We averaged less than 3,000 in two different seasons ourselves.
