Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock seems frustrated right now

Neil Warnock has revealed he'll continue to work on a shoestring budget at Cardiff City, but requires some financial backing to launch a promotion bid next season.

The 68-year-old manager previously said he wanted to target promotion next season, but the Bluebirds barely spent a penny in January.

Greg Halford and Allan McGregor arrived at Cardiff, but the Bluebirds missed the chance to buy a prolific striker.

Now Warnock has set his stall out for the summer, with talks ongoing between the veteran manager and the Bluebirds hierarchy. Targets will be identified and Warnock wants to use the summer to fine-tune his squad.


"We are already working to a figure that is acceptable to me and I think is acceptable to the board and owners," Warnock said.

"We've got two or three players we'd like to bring in, which we will try to do.

"We need to do business straight away I think, not wait until the season starts.

"We've got a good idea who we want.

"Things change when someone comes in and buys one of the players you want, but in general we've got a good idea who we need."

It seems inevitable that one of those players brought in will be a striker.

But with Championship clubs paying big money for frontmen such as Ross McCormack (who went to Villa for £12million in the summer) or Jordan Rhodes (who could make his loan to Sheffield Wednesday permanent for £10million) financial competition is fierce.

But Warnock wants to work within a budget, set to be agreed with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan in the coming months.

"I don't need anywhere near that sort of money (paid for Rhodes). Half that figure will do me," added Warnock.

Emyr Huws, Stuart O'Keefe, Matthew Kennedy and Ben Wilson were among the Cardiff players to leave on loan in January, but whether any will figure in Warnock's plans for next season remains to be seen.

Had a dream last night I was on here discussing the same subject where one or two questioned the intentions of the club only for one or two who can't handle others opinions accusing the one or two questioning the club of being anti club anti establishment anti everything.

So I was going to stay out of this one but then said bollocks to the oe or two who can't handle my opinions. Funny really how this sort of topic comes up when its season ticket renewal time. I'll just leave it at that.

but what if we are not ok ? should we hit a poor run and end up going down who will then still want NW if infact would he still want to be here.

My opinion under Warnock even with a depleted squad,he will save you from going down as he gets 110% out of every player and knows how to get at the opostion and can sneak those wins when it really matters.

Annis,i think exactly the same i am quite confident too, but have been around long enough to see how things can turn in football. examples are everywhere. who thought big Sam would have a zero effect at Palace? bristol this season play off contenders to a run of 9 defeats.
ill be happy to get this season out of the way first and be safe.
got to say i find it a bit strange our manager is talking about next season on a daily basis while there is so much to play for this season .

Yea, we'll we got the basis of a good team now, and with the right reinforcements we could mount a promotion campaign but on negative ( oops) track can u really announce it, doesn't always work out.
We r hard to beat now couple this with scoring goals and who knows,
