NEIL WARNOCK:

"Lee Peltier’s had an operation on Tuesday on his ankle. We’ll know more about that in about two weeks, he’s out for a few months."

"Apparently the op was better than what we expected. We thought he’d have to had a severe op. They took a few chunks of bone out, it’s quite amazing how he’s played as long as he had. He should be ok before the end of the season."

"Pilks, I’m not sure about Tuesday, but probably fit for Rotherham. Bennett feels a lot better. Lambert’s training and he’s in the squad for tomorrow. He felt a lot better yesterday and joined in training so he’ll come into the reckoning."

Key facts

Club: Leeds United FC
Opening: 1897
Capacity: 39,460 seats

History and description

Elland Road opened in 1897, however in the first years of its existence it was only used for rugby matches. In 1904 newly formed football club Leeds City moved into the ground, and in the following years the stadium got gradually expanded.

After in 1919 Leeds City got expelled from the Football League, the stadium was sold for a sum of £250 to newly formed Leeds United. Further renovations were made shortly after, but few changes were made in the decades following.

In 1956, a fire burned down the West Stand, and a new stand had to be built. With the successes of Leeds United in the 1960s and early 70s further renovations were made.

Elland Road achieved its record attendance in 1967 during an FA Cup match with Sunderland. A total of 57,892 supporters watched the game from the stands.

In the early 1990s, the club started a redevelopment program for the ground, which most notably included the rebuilding of the East Stand in 1993. At completion, the stand counted as the biggest cantilever stand in the world.

Elland Road was one of the playing venues of the Euro 1996 Championships, during which it hosted three group matches.

In the early 2000s, Leeds investigated a move to a brand new 55,000-stadium, however these plans were shelved after the club’s finances severely deteriorated. Only smaller renovations have been made to the stadium since.

Cheeky feckers

Tickets for our next home Sky Bet Championship fixture against Cardiff City on Saturday 11th February (3pm) are selling fast, with over 25,500 tickets sold.

Due to the demand, the decision has been made to open the South West Corner of Elland Road.

This match is a ‘Category A’ fixture with tickets from £28 adults, £22 concessions and £5 juniors.

The Whites have won all of their last six home outings , without conceding a goal and Garry Monk's side will be looking to continue that run when welcoming the Welsh outfit.

In our last meeting in September, United defeated the Bluebirds 2-0 at Cardiff City Stadium, thanks to a Chris Wood penalty and a delightful strike from Pablo Hernandez.

Last time the two sides came head to head at Elland Road was in November 2015, when former United midfielder Alex Mowatt secured the Whites a 1-0 victory.

The game will also mark a return to Elland Road for our former manager Neil Warnock who is now in charge of the Welsh outfit.

LEEDS FANS CALL FOR MONK TO START 20-YEAR-OLD SENSATION AGAINST CARDIFF

Inside Football

6th February, 2017,

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to call for Garry Monk to hand Alfonso Pedraza a starting berth against Cardiff on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who signed on loan from La Liga giants Villarreal in January, made his debut for the Yorkshire giants against Huddersfield on Sunday during the 2-1 derby loss.

Pedraza excited Leeds fans with his attacking intent right from the off, which saw him drive forward and strike a stinging shot at goal only to be denied by goalkeeper Danny Ward.

With Souleymane Doukara and Stuart Dallas failing to have an impact at the John Smith’s Stadium from out wide, Pedraza could now start against Neil Warnock’s side at Elland Road.

Leeds fans are desperate to see their new recruit start in Monk’s side on the weekend, as the former Swansea boss looks to see his side return to winning ways with three points against Cardiff.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Pedraza looked decent when he got on the ball, hopefully he'll start over Douk and Roofe will be back for Cardiff

— Adam Hulbert (@AdamHulbert) February 5, 2017

4 Tickets in the bag for the Cardiff game, be good to see Pedraza in the flesh early on. Genuinely excited re our firepower, going up #lufc

— Dirty Filthy Leeds (@VileAndProud) January 31, 2017

I think Pedraza could be a really good player. Would like to see him against Cardiff.

— James Cousins (@CuzLufc73) February 5, 2017

Need to start Pedraza against Cardiff, looked class against Huddersfield #lufc

— The Fallen Giants (@FallenGiants) February 6, 2017

Leeds will be desperate for three points come Saturday, as they look to kick-start their promotion bid and gain top-flight status for the first time since in 2003-04.

Starting Pedraza could help them do just that.

Once again a crowd of over 33,000 is expected, as in previous home fixtures this season against Rotherham United and Newcastle United.

The former Swansea City boss clashed with Huddersfield Town boss Wagner and could now face a FA ban or fined

If banned, Monk would be prohibited from his dug-out when Neil Warnock takes his Cardiff troops to Elland Road at the weekend.

Monday 6th Feb 2017

Garry Monk could be handed a Football Association charge after his touchline confrontation with Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner..

The flare-up, which happened towards the end of Sunday's Yorkshire derby, came after Wagner celebrated his team's late winner.

Both clubs could be in trouble for failing to control their players, according to The Sun.

Monk appeared to nudge Wagner as the German ran back to his dug-out, causing a mass brawl when players and officials piled in.

The former Swansea boss denied any wrongdoing, but there is a possibility he could be banned from the Elland Road dug-out for the visit of Cardiff City on Saturday.

Leeds United manager Garry Monk is sent to the stand by referee Simon Hooper (Photo: PA)
Monk, who accused Wagner of showing a lack of class , said: “I can only speak for myself but my world and the world I was brought up in, you have to show humility and respect and a little bit of class.

“When I don’t see that, I take it upon myself to put that right.

“I hold those values dear, I live by my values, and I expect my players to uphold those values, too.

“When I see that against us, it’s not a good thing. If someone else doesn’t show that, it doesn’t mean you have to accept it.

“My technical area is my technical area and if someone runs across it and into you or something what can you do? I can only speak about the values I have in my life.

“And as for an FA charge, no, I don’t think so. I don’t feel we were the ones behaving badly. You’ll have to ask them about their values and what they were fighting for."

According to Yorkshire Post reporter Phil Hay , the FA will receive a report from the referee today (Monday) and make a decision this week.

If banned, Monk would be prohibited from his dug-out when Neil Warnock takes his Cardiff troops to Elland Road at the weekend.

Leeds favourite: I'm glad I left Elland Road

By Colin Harvey

Thrsday 9th February 2017

Sol Bamba walked away from Leeds in the summer

The 32-year-old has no regrets about leaving Elland Road over the summer and heading for south Wales.

Bamba left Yorkshire on a free contract after Garry Monk persuaded him to tear up his contract.

“I’ve loved being in the middle of a relegation fight”

And while his old side are flying high in the Championship, Bamba is relishing the relegation dogfight he currently finds himself in.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I’ve loved being in the middle of a relegation fight.

Sol Bamba is now battling relegation with Cardiff

"I don’t mean it’s what you aim for as a player but like chasing promotion, it’s something to motivate you.

"I think a few of us found it difficult at Leeds last season with nothing much to play for, you feel like you’re just ticking off games.

"But I knew there was a job to be done at Cardiff and we’re all digging in. We definitely need the points as much as Leeds on Saturday.”

Sol Bamba comments on Leeds United's promotion chances

Former Leeds captain says club have exceeded his expectations.

HITC SPORTS

Thursday 9th February 2017

Former Leeds United captain Sol Bamba has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the Whites are exceeding his expectations this season.

Bamba was released in September, later joining Cardiff City, and returns to Elland Road under the guidance of manager Neil Warnock this weekend.

After finishing the 2015/16 season in 13th place, Leeds currently sit in fifth position, occupying a play-off spot and were last month as high as third place.

Bamba said he did not expect Leeds to be so near to the promotion hunt, but is glad to see his former club in the mix.

He said: "I’d be lying if I told you I thought they’d get promoted this season. Even now I think they’ve gone further much faster than any of us expected. But I knew they’d be fine. I’d have backed them for top 10, definitely.

"I’d be as happy as anyone if Leeds get into the play-offs. I just won’t be giving them any help."

Leeds are favourites to beat Cardiff City this weekend, having only lost two of their last 10 league games, but are coming off a disappointing defeat at Huddersfield last Sunday.

Cardiff are down in 17th place and have lost three of their last four matches, two of the defeats coming against Leeds' promotion rivals Brighton and Reading.

' Massimo Cellino taking a step back '

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino owner is facing a 12-month fan from football by the FA for breaching agent rules over the sale of Ross McCormack to Fulham in 2014.

The obvious result of this is that Cellino will be forced to take a step back from the running of the club.

The Italian entrepreneur has famously had 43 managers in 24 years across his time in charge of Leeds and Italian side Cagliari, and Monk is Cellino's seventh Leeds manager in under four years.

But the signs are good for Monk, just three more matches in charge will see him outlast each of his five predecessors in the Elland Road hotseat.

However he may not be in the dugout for the visit of Cardiff after the FA charged him over his altercation with Huddersfield boss David Wagner last weekend.

' FINANCES '

Although not big spenders by the Championship's hugely inflated transfer fees, Leeds have been able to spend in the last two transfer markets.

Roofe joined Leeds for £3m in the summer

In the summer they picked up exciting Oxford forward Kemar Roofe for £3m and striker Marcus Antonsson for £1.6m. While Lewis Cook, Luke Ayling, Marcus Antonsson, Liam Bridcutt and Eunan O'Kane all joined for undisclosed fees.

Include the permanent signing of Jansson in January, and Leeds have in all likelihood spent over £10m in the last two windows.

Contrast that with Cardiff, who having backed former managers Russell Slade and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market with mixed results, have tightened the purse strings and been forced to rely mostly on loan signings and snapping up free agents.
