Years ago I posted on here that I saw Declan as a star of the future . This was from watching him in the academy for 6 years when my son was in the same team .
What I saw was a very quick winger with loads of confidence who took on people and had a great cross of the ball on him . He was also very cool in front of goal and had a little nasty part in him that he would give back what he got and a little more
What I also saw was a kid who could not tackle and had no defensive qualities what so ever . In the academy you can see the natural defenders who could tackle and get in the right positions and could head the ball agressively . It was seen as a bit of a joke by the boys when they asked Declan to play left back for say half a game He just did not have it in him at the position
If Warnock can get Declan confident again and play him on the wing we may see Declan getting back to his old self .
Malky converted him to left back and that was such a wrong decision in my eyes having observed the lad for six years

It was not Malky that changed him to left back, it was done in the accadamy but you are right he is a winger.

What annoyed me and I stood up for Slade in most cases but not with Declan and when Trollop took over the team it was terrible but the only possitive was the way Declan was playing in the role he was playing as the welsh system suited him.

He had a great pre season too, I was upset he didnt play against Fulham on the wing sadly I do not think he is part of the warnock plan but then I noticed he has been on the bench last couple of games I still think as a winger he still has a lot to show but sadly I do not think Cardiff will benefit from it

ive thought this for a long time myself. and found it strange that a number of managers have not picked up on it.the problem stems from left back being a difficult position to fill at all levels, so at some point a square peg goes in the round hole. and for some reason managers a reluctant to reverse it .happened with Bale .

Hes a winger and always has been .. I remember seeing him I'm a dvp game and he ripped there right back to pieces unfortunately even then we never had a good goal scorer so it never complimented him.

I hope he gets the chance to play on the wing and has less defensive duties than he had before because he can't defend for toffee.

I just watched Warnocks interview on player. He says that Declan will be getting a chance now and he may be needed to fill a role both at full back and further forward on the wing, Warnock also said you never know there's always one that surprises.

Like I said in another thread, this could be a life line for Declan and I believe if he doesn't take it, he'll be gone in the summer. I think he'll do well on the wing!

What is staggering is how many games he played in the PL for us

Declan was by far the quickest in the academy Now that was a few years back but as still young I would not have expected him to lose his pace However I must admit he has not looked that quick at left back but can't remember to many running past him He simply could not defend and cut out crosses
