NEIL WARNOCK:"MISSED OUT ON A NEW PLAYER & IS FUMING WITH THE FA"

"I went to have a kip... and came back to 40 phone calls" Neil Warnock gives the inside track on Cardiff City's transfer deadline day

Wednesday 1st February 2017

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has revealed how a frantic transfer deadline day saw the Bluebirds miss out on a signing, while once again slamming the Football Association for their decision to schedule fixtures on deadline day.

The Bluebirds were left frustrated as they failed to land any signings on the final day of the window, with the only movement being Stuart O’Keefe, Emyr Huws and Matty Kennedy all leaving the club on loan.

Warnock admitted that Cardiff were close to brining in at least one new signing on Tuesday afternoon, but let the deal slip through their fingers.

“We were disappointed we didn’t get one over the line, we were very close,” he said.

“It was our fault really – we hesistated.”

The 68-year-old also revealed how his usual pre-match nap was interrupted as the chaos of transfer deadline day took hold.

“At my age I need a kip in the afternoon before a game. I went to lie down yesterday and in an hour-and-a-half I counted 40 phone calls.

“I mean how stupid is that?”

Speaking after the 2-0 victory against Preston , Warnock branded the FA a ‘disgrace’ for scheduling matches on the evening of deadline day, and he reiterated his thoughts the morning after.

“The transfer window is really a disgrace from the FA – putting it on a match day.

“It’s just wrong to have it on a matchday. I don’t care what they say, they can organise it better than that.”

The Cardiff boss is now targeting the summer transfer window as he looks to build a side capable of promotion to the Premier League.

“We really need to have a go in the summer. We haven’t really got enough goals in team, and we need options off the bench.

“We’ve got genuine, good lads and we have got potential to score goals like did Ken last night – he could have had a hat-trick.”

Warnock was also questioned on Talksport about whether he would stay with the club beyond the end of the season.

“Well I don’t know, but you’ve got to look like that and plan for whatever happens in the future.

“We let three lads go out last night and got nobody in and then we got a couple of injuries too, it was frustrating.”

Despite Zohore’s goal stealing the headlines against Preston , Warnock was full of praise for his defence as Cardiff kept a third clean sheet in a row at home in the league.

“Our defenders did ever so well, it was almost like they put a spider’s web on them,” said Warnock

The Cardiff boss also lavished praise on the Bluebirds’ suppporters.

“They’ve been magnificient. They all come down and they’re ever so passionate. We took 2,500 to Reading last week and they’ve been great for us at home all season. It’s a great club and a great crowd.”

couldnt we have re arranged the game for wednesday ?
or get SWP to get KO moved to 11.30pm on the strength of preston fans causing trouble at blackpool in 1974 and fearing a repeat.

So we can't blame the committee when from that article it is clear Warnock is handling transfers and FFS if he was waiting on a agent and needed a kip what is wrong with his backroom staff, Blackwell a manager in his own right.
Plenty of excuses always at hand Mr.Warnock. :old:

Well that is entirely different to a lot of the posts I have read on here today. Obviously, Warnock was hoping to bring players in yesterday, and sound a bit cheesed off that he has been unable to do so. He is also giving little away about being here next season. I think the future is far from clear, and I would be pleasantly surprised if he is here come the start of next season.

im not sure Warnock was that keen to get players in mate.
a kip on deadline day, and a K.O that could be moved.
maybe the noises about slipping through fingers and nearlies are for our benefit.
meanwhile progress on the pitch and coming over as frugal to our owner could in the long term earn him that extension we all want.
