I wanted a Sutton Lincoln game to get one of them into the quarters.

I suppose at least this way they could both go through. :)

That's the beauty of the FA Cup - I wish all sides would take it serious as to me this was one of the best cup competitions in the world and has been ruined.

I think it started losing it the year Man United pulled out which I believe was 1999/2000 and if I am not mistaken were the cup holders

Bring back the magic of the cup :ayatollah:

I used to love this competition, and cup final day was massive with both BBC and ITV starting their cup final programmes around 10am, and going right through the day. This season it looks like a Sutton/Lincoln final. Not quite the same as Leeds/Chelsea or Liverpool/Arsenal from years gone by. On a serious note, just looking at a lot of the sides left is proof that this competition has become the poor relations of British football. There was a time when winning the cup was almost as prestigious as winningn the 1st division title, even if the winners only had to win a handful of games in comparrison to the title winners.

The blame for the demise of the fa cup lies solely in the hands of non terrestrial TV, who have killed the fair play and honesty of football in general. Greed and overated Pro's forget the everyday fans. Bring back glamour bring back our tradition

I would argue that the top clubs still take it seriously, if you look at the last twelve winners and who they played in the final:

Manchester United (v Crystal Palace)
Arsenal (v Aston Villa)
Arsenal (v Hull City)
Wigan Athletic (v Manchester City)
Chelsea (v Liverpool)
Manchester City (v Stoke City)
Chelsea (v Portsmouth)
Chelsea (v Everton)
Portsmouth (v Cardiff City)
Chelsea (v Manchester United)
Liverpool (v West Ham United)
Arsenal (v Manchester United)

In those twelve years, the only non-Premier League club to reach the final was us. Also in this, one of the "big six" have won the cup in ten of the twelve years - with our final being the only one where one of the "big six" haven't made the final.

It will probably be one of the big clubs again, mainly because they have more quality in their reserve sides and fringe players than most other clubs have available for their first team. We have already seen not just PL clubs, but Championship sides making eleven changes from their normal team. I would say that teams like Sutton would have little chance against a Leeds first eleven, and likewise Brighton. They obviously believe they have bigger fish to fry.

simple solution, FA Cup winners play in Champions League instead of 4th place league team. That will soon get the competition back where it should be

agree. especially now uefa have changed the entry rules to the 4 top teams from top 4 highest ranked associations going directly into groups.
not sure how happy sky would be though.
