' IT COULD BE REALLY BAD NEWS FOR NEIL WARNOCK '

Cardiff City have been left fearing Bruno Manga will be ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering potential knee ligament damage on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Neil Warnock:

“We need to know Monday because of deadline day, but I fear the worst.”

Friday 27th Jan 2017

Manga's current contract expires this summer, but now all plans are on hold as Warnock braces himself for the worst.

Manga is due back in the UK on Saturday after representing Gabon in the AFCON tournament, the host nation crashing out in the group stage after failing to beat Cameroon in their final match on Sunday.

But the 28-year-old centre-back will go immediately for a scan to assess the full extent of the damage to his knee after suffering an injury in the final minutes of that game.

The Bluebirds have decided to opt for further assessment after the defender received an initial scan in Gabon, but boss Neil Warnock has admitted he is fearing the worst and that Manga will not play again this term.

It is a blow for Warnock who had been initially ready to cash-in on Manga in the January window, admitting off-loading the club's highest-earner would enable him to strengthen elsewhere. Warnock had hinted at potential interest from overseas.

But Manga's performances since had tempted Warnock into a change of heart over the former 2014 £5m signing from French side Lorient and admitted there was scope for talks over a new deal.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash at Reading, Warnock said: “Bruno back tomorrow and in for a scan on Monday, so we’ll know more then. It's ligament trouble and it doesn't sound very good.

“We need to know Monday because of deadline day, but I fear the worst. We've had a scan sent to us (from Gabon) but it’s almost impossible because they can’t send it like we do, so we have to take our own as soon as we can.

“It’s a worry he’ll miss the rest of the season and at a time where we have some tough games, just look at our next five games.”

Warnock admits he's unsure whether the news will affect any late business ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline. The veteran manager is still keen on further signings – with one swap deal for an unnamed fringe player a possibility – but is adamant not to expect any major dealings in the final hours of the window.

According to BBC Sport, Cardiff City defender Bruno Ecuele Manga could be out for the rest of the 2016/17 season.

27/01/17

Manga damaged knee ligaments during Gabon’s 0-0 draw with Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations and will have a scan when he returns to Cardiff.

This comes as a big blow for Cardiff City, who were planning on selling Bruno Manga in an attempt to generate funds for potential new arrivals.

However, the 28-year-old had returned to the starting XI and Neil Warnock was possibly considering keeping him beyond January so this news would be a blow to his defensive plans either way.

Manga’s contract is due to expire in the summer and Warnock does not know whether this injury news will affect his activity in the January window.

Speaking to BBC Wales Sport, he said:

“We need to know Monday because of deadline day, but I fear the worst.”

Does the Gabon FA not now pay his wages if injured on International duty >?

So the worst possible situation for all basically. We don't get to sell him, we don't get to play him and he's out of contract in the summer.

“I don’t know if it’ll affect what we do Tuesday, no-one really knows what will happen. You’d think they’d have more sense than having a game on the Tuesday.
“There could be deals going on while the games are going on.”

We pay him that's the beauty of Int football.

Some of these nations should either have a great insurance to cover this or the player told he must take one out to cover his wages.

If none of these are done then the player is told he plays at his own risk.

If every club adopted this then this would stop straight away!

Surely insurance covers this from Gabon..?

May also be an opportunity to keep him as we may be in a stronger bargaining point over a new contract due to his Injury?

just our luck nubbsy, i was just telling my mate in work this kinda shit would only happen to us,we should have made him sign a 1yr deal before he went at least then we can get a fee or if something like this happened we was covered

All part of a cunning plan:

Warnock wants to keep manga

Tan tells Warnock he has to go wages too high

Warnock says players injured (at this stage we can't say how bad).

No offers come in for manga

February miraculous recovery, Warnock to Tan "none of us knew what was happening boss Gabon are very amateurish"

That for me would be perfect if it pleases Warnock :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird:

I am under the impression that the FAs of national teams have to take out insurance to cover wages if injuries occur when players are on international duty.

I vaguely remember an instance when Messi couldn't play for Argentina a few years back because of it

Mind you I wouldn't trust the Gabon FA to have anything sorted out with insurance cover

Init mate. All we can do is hope the club arrange a new deal with him to keep him on next year.

But don't the FAs of the country pay if a players on injured on international duty? I remember the Dean Ashton case where the FA had to shell out a hell of compensation due to his age, injury and potential when he had to retire due to international duty - however if I recall correctly it took a while to meet a figure that suited both parties. I'm sure it's aFIFA rule because they can ban a player who refuses a call up e.g. Joel Maria at Liverpool

It doesn't only happen to us, there's no end of players get injured on international duty.
Also, you cannot make somebody sign a one year deal.

I think you're wrong.
If a player is injured during a major tournament then the club is entitled to compensation.
This doesn't apply if the player is injured in the qualifying rounds apparently.

I dont agree, not many times do i not agree with you Karl, he got injured with his Country, they should be responsible till he plays again.

So it seems he won't be going and If he signs a new contract in the summer or before which I hope he does then that will show that Tan will back Warnock. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Who ever pays him or not is besides the point no one should invest in an African player of quality unless you are the likes of one of the big 4.

I often wonder about that. If I were a club owner or manager I would be wary of signing African players simply because they disappear at this stage of the season once every 2 years on this stupid competition which shouldn't be allowed during such a vital part of the domestic season.
