' BEN AMOS & RHYS HEALEY CANT LEAVE CARDIFF AGAIN THIS SEASON '

Cardiff City will now pay till the end of May, Ben Amos £16,000 basic wages a week, Will we ever learn?

The pair have already played for two clubs each this season and therefore must remain with the Bluebirds

It's the rule that comes as both a blessing and a curse for Cardiff City right now.

And just as Neil Warnock weighed up the pros and cons of sending Rhys Healey on against Burton Albion, the law played heavy on his mind.

“I was tempted not to use him (Healey) because it means he can't go out on loan now with that rule about playing for more than two teams," admitted Warnock.

"And I didn't want to spoil it for him, but I'm afraid I was a bit selfish today! But no regrets there."

Healey — who has already featured heavily for Newport County this season — like any player in the professional game, is only eligible to play for two clubs per season under Football Association and FIFA laws.

So when Warnock chucked him into the mix, to devastating effect against the Brewers , it meant Healey wouldn't be able to move on loan again this season, despite Plymouth's reported interest in the Mancunian striker.

' Why does the rule exist? '

The law derives from the 'FIFA Two' which came into use in 2008. That was after Irish duo Colin Healy and Gareth Farrelly were prevented to playing for Cork City as they'd play for two other clubs in the 2006-07 season. FIFA changed its transfer regulations in January 2008 and the law has since been altered to include loan moves as well.

It was brought in to replicate the notion of being 'Cup tied' — when a player cannot play for more than one club in any cup competition.

It also applies to Ben Amos, the Cardiff keeper on loan from Bolton Wanderers.

The former Manchester United gloveman played for Bolton at the start of the season, and considering the Trotters use Ben Alnwick and Mark Howard as first choice keepers, Amos would be third choice if he returned to the Macron Stadium. A loan to a third club this season is now out of the question.

' The ramifications '

So, while a frustrated Amos now finds himself down the Cardiff pecking order, behind Brian Murphy and new signing Allan McGregor, Healey is a beneficiary of the rule, finally getting an opportunity to shine at Championship level.

Having endured mixed fortunes in loan moves to Dundee, Colchester United and Newport, Healey won the hearts of Cardiff fans with a late intervention against Burton.

And the 22-year-old from North Wales may get more chances to impress his new boss, now guaranteed to be in and around the first team squad for the next four months.

Cardiff face Brighton on Tuesday night, before a weekend trip to Reading and home clashes with Preston and Norwich all before February 4.

For Amos, it looks like an infuriating four months in the shadows, despite the 26-year-old 'keeper giving a reasonable account of himself in the Bluebirds' goal during his 15 appearances this season.

He must be wishing he never played for Bolton in a 4-2 EFL Cup defeat to Blackpool in early August.

we signed a years contract which means we pay him for the year. we could send him back but would still have to pay his wages { not sure how player insurance might be effected though}.
the rule is a player can sign for 3 clubs but only play for 2. the rule runs right through football down to parks players.

Amos had already played for BWFC

There should be no reason why we can't send Amos back to Bolton, unless our transfer committee have dropped yet another bollock by agreeing to pay his full 18k a week wages for the rest of the season, meaning we are stuck with him.

I thought it was quite simple, he's signed for the season.

If you agree to take somebody on a season long you can't just decide to send them back when you don't want them anymore the club haven't "dropped a bollock" it happens at every club.

Players on loan can usually be sent back early if it isn't working out, but it obviously needs to be agreed by both clubs. Bolton are in financial trouble so of course they're not going to allow us to send Amos back. It seems we've stupidly decided to pay his full wages until the end of the season, so it looks like we are stuck with him. Why didn't we sign him until January with the option of extending it for the full season?

its a two way thing, i bet theres a couple of managers that would have liked to send players on loan from us back early too.
in fact a couple of managers involving ALF alone

I know it's a two way thing, I'm just surprised we agreed to pay his full wages for the whole season as this was a panic signing on deadline day as we had no senior keepers left. If it was up to me, I would have only wanted Amos until January to see if he justified his 18k a week wages, then made a decision if I thought he was worth keeping on. Seems we're stuck with him now anyway and we'll have to hope Warnock can still manage to bring a couple of decent players in.

bare in mind, its the last day of the window,Bolton are deep in the pooh and we come knocking desperate for a keeper with our manager having identified their keeper as who he wanted .maybe we did ask for just until Jan AND half his wages but they held all the cards.
