Neil Warnock targeting 'one or two' more January signings to boost Cardiff City's misfiring attacking lineup

The Bluebirds' boss saw his attacking forces draw a blank up until Rhys Healey's 90th minute winner off the bench

Neil Warnock will try and sign 'one or two more players' before the January transfer window slams shut in nine days.

The veteran manager watched his Cardiff City charges huff and puff against a limited Burton Albion side , the points only secured when Rhys Healey netted a last-gasp winner.

And while Warnock previously admitted he wouldn't seek an out-and-out striker this month, after Healey added to his forward options , he is believed to be keen on signing a winger and, possibly, another attacking player before February.

The Cardiff boss reiterated that players may leave in the next few days as well.

"We're mixing it up, when we play (well) we're a force and we can get points off anybody but we're still a bit short quality-wise," he said after the Burton match.

"I hope we can still bring one or two in before the window. One or two faces might have to leave as well, to balance the books."

The Bluebirds are still thought to be on the trail of Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes, despite their latest offer being branded 'bizarre' by Dons' boss Derek McInnes.

Others, like Birmingham City midfielder David Davis and Derby County's Abdoul Camara have been linked, but Greg Halford remains the only first team outfielder to move to South Wales this month.

Warnock's comments came after Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis, who joined the Scottish club from Cardiff in the summer, said he understood why the Bluebirds were keen on Irish international winger Hayes.

Lewis said: “I think everyone who has watched Aberdeen for the last few seasons can see why teams would be interested in Jonny.

“He’s a fantastic player. He’s got a contract here for another 18 months so we’re in the driving seat. If we don’t want to sell him, we don’t have to sell him.

“I’m sure there are plenty of teams who would love to have Jonny in their squad. We’re very fortunate we’ve had him for a few years and we’ve got him now. Hopefully we can get through the window and keep a hold of him.”

Agree, unless an exceptional opportunity comes along. In any case I'm hoping Kennedy may solve his winger issue and I'd rather he buy a pacy, creative midfielder.

Is the reason we are not signing any players due to the fact that another transfer embargo is on the way?

Now, I'm not in the know in any way at all but this window is beginning to feel a lot like last years January window with just the odd loan coming into the club.

Hope I'm wrong.

Warnock hopes to make 'one or two' signings

There are only eight more days until the January transfer market closes, and Neil Warnock is hoping to be a busy man over the next week or so.

He’s revealed that he hopes to sign ‘one or two’ more players - admitting that the attack is his priority.

City still need 17 odd points for safety. 50 is the benchmark isn't it? (it has been so long since we have been in the wrong end of the championship at this stage of the season so cannot recall)

City have on paper some stern matches, both home and away with potential 6 pointers away at Blackburn and Wigan and our last 2 fixtures could be daunting.

I am sure we will be safe with a tidy 8 point safety net at present but to that end I would prefer us to bring in a bit more goal scoring power up front and from central midfield just to make sure. :bluebird:
