Cardiff City: Neil Warnock made 'selfish' Rhys Healey decision

Rhys Healey: Tells Warnock "I can make Cardiff breakthrough"

BBC

22/01/17

Neil Warnock admits he made a 'selfish' decision to bring on match-winning substitute Rhys Healey.

The 22-year-old scored his first City goal in Cardiff's 1-0 win over Burton, but will now be unable to move to another club this season.

Healey can not play for a third side in the same season due to Football League regulations, having spent four months on loan at Newport County.

I am afraid I was a bit selfish today," Warnock told BBC Wales Sport.

"I was tempted not to use him, because by using him means he can't go out on loan now, because of that rule about two teams.

"He's really worked hard this season and he has played a lot of games at Newport.

"I didn't want to spoil it, but I have no regrets about it."

Warnock felt Healey, who was spotted by Cardiff playing in the Welsh Premier League for Connah's Quay Nomads, has earned his opportunity,

"I've watched him twice myself and the lads have watched him and believe it or not, it was probably his finishing that let him down a little bit at Newport," Warnock explained.

"When he came on he was a threat, he was a nuisance and to get his first goal is fabulous for him.

"He's done well in training. He's made himself a nuisance. I thought he was good enough to come on and he got his reward.

"He won't be going anywhere now, he's stuck with us whether he likes it or not.

Healey:had told Warnock "I can make Cardiff breakthrough"

"The goal will give him a lift and nothing fazes him. I told him to enjoy it and he did and it was lovely to see the lad get a round of applause in the dressing room.

Warnock says the scrappy nature of the win over Burton made him cherish the three points all the more,

"That is probably the best three points since I have been at the club," he told BBC Wales Sport.

"As a manager, these are the best wins ever. The wins like this where it is a scrappy horrible game."

Healey is buzzing and I reckon Neil Warnock is the right manager to get the best out of him :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

He deserves his chance.

Has always had the talent. He now needs support and development.

Who better in the championship than Warnock and Bellamy to bring him on

Well if that's what gets him results he can be as selfish as he likes as far as I'm concerned.

Yes I hope we do.

We tried playing pretty an ended up 23rd in the league with a sacked manager.

I agree with you but it does sort of drive a coach and horses through the opinion that if a young player hasn't broken through by 18/19 years of age then they never will?

At 22 Healey really is a very late arrival but hopefully he will continue to improve and make his mark.

How nice is it to see a youth lad get a chance and take it, let's hope Healy has the will and desire to step up to the plate. This will have helped him so much let's hope he kicks on.

Was it only me that picked up on the part where it says "I was delighted that he got a round of applause in the dressing room " surely this shows that there's a good feeling in camp at the moment. I also noticed at the final whistle Lambert ran straight to Healy and was shouting to him well done lad I knew you could do it.

That's perfect, with the right encouragement and development and unity in camp, Warnock, Beller's and Lambert what a combo of experience for the young lad to learn from.

I think he might score at Brighton! :ayatollah: :bluebird:

They are going to be desperate to beat us in our game in hand as they tustle with Newcastle at the top! The pressure is off us after our recent run and we will be full of confidence. I fancy us to beat Brighton with the rise we are going through and the extra quality we have.

Warnock goes into every game to win it and he is always hungry for it and so I feel our players are now. 2.1 to the Bluebirds! :ayatollah: :bluebird: :occasion5:

"The extra quality we have"??
Were you there yesterday? The quality was zilch mate but, of course, I hope you're right about the result.

Alright so we had a bad game. The thing is we always bring it against bigger oposition and I think we will turn them over, plenty to play for. When did we last have 4 wins on the bounce? :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Agree, Hoilett wasn't at his best yesterday and neither was Pilkington but given more game time I can see that little lot improving. Great to see Kennedy back and I think he will bring a lot to the team. Great confidence booster, I wouldn't make any changes for Tuesday.
