100th Birthday

Today would have been former City striker Stan Richards' 100th Birthday

'Open the score Richards' was born in Cardiff in 1917 and signed for City in 1946, scoring a club record 30 league goals in the 1946/7 season, a record only broken by Earnie in the 2002/3 season. He only made his league debut at 29, after the end of World War 2 and no doubt would have banged a few more goals in for City had he not been blighted by a knee injury. Will go down in City folklore nonetheless. Earned one Welsh cap against England at NP and now also has a street named after him. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: How we could do with a striker like him now.

Always thought he was the best goalscorer, I believe non of his goals were free kicks or penalties

My grandfather was born in 1899 and he used to watch the city in their heyday in the 20`s fac final x2 missing title to huddersfield on goal difference in 1924 ? and going up to cardiff to see us bringing back the cup with 1/4 million people estimated on the streets there to see the cup being brought home to wales (contrast that to the 20k on the streets when the jacks won the league cup-different era i know but still...)anyway i degress i remember my grandfather talking about richards with the same reverance as fred keenor...so looked him up on wikipedia and 40 goals from 57 appearances thats legendary stuff.

My late dads favourite player. He would often tell me how brilliant he was.
