Cardiff City to offer former Everton man Matthew Kennedy plus cash for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes - reports

The Bluebirds failed with an initial bid of £500,000 for Hayes, but reports suggest they may offer Kennedy as part of a deal to sign the winger from Aberdeen.

Cardiff City could offer Matthew Kennedy plus cash in their bid to land winger Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen, according to reports.

The Bluebirds have already failed with a bid of £500,000 for the Republic of Ireland international - with Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes saying the fee came 'nowhere near' their asking price.

Hayes still has 18 months left on his contract with the Scottish Premier League outfit as McInnes reiterated his desire to keep hold of the winger.

And the Aberdeen manager McInnes stressed that the Bluebirds will have to significantly increase their offer if they are to land the 29-year-old.

He said: "If clubs have the same opinion of Jonny that I do then that falls way short of where we see him.

"They're going to have to show a bit more willingness if they want to get Jonny Hayes.

"He is such a key player for us and I don't want to lose any player in the January window."

Warnock revealed he still hopes to add to his squad over the course of the January transfer window and admitted he's still weighing up his options on two or three players.

And, according to the Aberdeen Evening Express , Cardiff could be prepared to send Scotland under-21 international Matthew Kennedy to the Dons as part of a deal to secure the services of Hayes.

Former Kilmarnock man Kennedy joined Everton in 2012 but moved to South Wales three years later via loan spells at Tranmere, MK Dons and Hibernian after failing to break into the Toffees' first team.

He has made only 17 appearances in two years for the Bluebirds and was loaned out to Port Vale in the second half of the 2015/16 campaign.

Kennedy scored a stunning free kick for Cardiff City's development side in their 3-1 win over Ipswich Town on Monday night.
