" NEW GOALIE AT CARDIFF CITY "

Neil Warnock has made it no secret that he is hoping to sign a new goalkeeper and he has revealed that he is hoping to announce the signing of a Premier League goalkeeper on loan this Thursday.

His goalkeeping options could be even further bolstered then if he decides to offer a contract to Gianluca Curci after his trial period.

Curci is an experienced goalkeeper who is currently plying his trade for German Bundesliga outfit 1. FSV Mainz 05.

The former Italy under-21 international has had two spells at Roma throughout his career, as well as playing for Siena, Sampdoria and Bologna – all in Italy.

Cardiff’s current first team goalkeepers are Ben Amos – on loan from Bolton Wanderers – and Brian Murphy, both of whom are thought to be below Warnock’s expected standard.

Cardiff sold David Marshall to Hull and Simon Moore to Sheffield United in the summer.

Italian goalkeeper Gianluca Curci on trial at Cardiff City

Neil Warnock revealed the Bluebirds hope to announce a loan deal for a Premier League goalkeeper on Thursday, and German side Mainz have confirmed their Italian goalkeeper Curci is currently on trial with Cardiff

Mainz 05 goalkeeper Gianluca Curci is currently on trial with Cardiff City.

The former Italy under-21 international's contract with the Bundesliga side expires in the summer - and the German outfit have announced that he is on trial with the Bluebirds this week.

Neil Warnock told WalesOnline that he hopes to announce a loan deal for a Premier League goalkeeper on Thursday.

And the Cardiff boss could be about to further strengthen his goalkeeping options if Italian Curci impresses during his trial in South Wales.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper started his career with Serie A giants Roma before joining Siena in 2008.

He had a one-year spell at Sampdoria before returning to Roma - but after failing to nail down a first team spot with his home city club, Curci was loaned out to Bologna in 2012.

The Italian signed a two-year contract with Jurgen Klopp's former side Mainz 05 in the 2016 summer transfer window but went on to have a trial with League One side Bristol Rovers earlier this month.

Curci won two Coppa Italia's and a Supercoppa Italiana during his time with Roma and has represented Italy's national side at under-19, under-20 and under-21 level - although he has never been capped by the Azzurri's first team.

I'd be happy with Curci at our level - still a decent age for a keeper and some good experience behind him. Bit nomadic recently but I'm sure that Curci would find the club a decent fit for him.

Cardiff City are targeting a loan move for Hull's Scotland international goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Neil Warnock, the Cardiff manager, told BBC Wales Sport he is keen to bring in a Premier League goalkeeper before Saturday's Championship game with Burton.

McGregor, 34, is behind Eldin Jakupovic and former Cardiff number one David Marshall in Hull's pecking order.

The former Rangers and Besiktas keeper has yet to play this season.

He joined Hull in 2013 for £1.5m and has made 103 appearances for the club.

I saw him in Istanbul playing for Besiktas and he was monstering his defenders all the time, he gave them hell. They tried to calm him by laughing at him when they went off but he was having none of it despite them winning comfortably 3-1.

So Morrison and Co better be strapped in and on their game.
