Is it worth signing anyone in this window?

Mon Jan 16, 2017 7:21 pm

As we have enough to stay up with what we got. Maybe players like the young striker we have signed with potential for nowt. Would it not be better for NW to focus on getting rid of those not in his plans between now and the summer, then bringing in what he needs and have a full pre season with them, and have a real go next season.

Good point, and I attend to agree but I would get that kid from Aberdeen and that's it.

Completely agree mate. If there's someone that pops up that Warnock genuinely wants and we can get him on a really good deal then I say go for it but unless that's the case then I don't think we should buy for the sake of it, be held to ransom and over pay for a player. I think we've got a good enough squad to stay up, we should use the second half the season to really nail down foundations for next year then try and get the players we need in the summer and get a full pre season under their belts.

Do we have enough though to keep us up? I know it all looks good at the moment but hiccups do occur.

Also without a bit of fresh blood the current squad could become complacent again knowing their places are safe.

Think we have easily enough to stay up, keep Manga for next season, he will be back soon also, be like a signing. If we do sign a couple, loans would do till end of season, only 3 and half months left!

He aint a kid hes 29, will have no re sale value, as a winger has 3 years at best, at his peak now or last season!

Great point and one I touched on a few days ago. THIS transfer window is all about ensuring Championship safety and working out who/what is or isn't needed for NEXT season

The players required for each job may differ and surely the purse strings (if any) would be better loosened in the summer rather than at the notoriously difficult and expensive winter window? :ayatollah:

I think everyone is assuming we will beat Burton which will make things look a lot more comfortable. If we do what we have a tendency to do, and lose to a team who are likely to be relegated, we are right back in it and will only be 2 points above Burton ourselves. I'm not sure one away win against a crap Bristol side guarantees safety, and you don't tend to get much in the way of good bargains in the Jan window. There will be plenty of twists and turns to come this season, but next season Burton, Wigan and Rotherham will not be playing against us.

You're right to a large extent, Steve and the Burton game is a big one for us in the context of this season. Expand the gap or watch it shrink!

You're also right that we won't be playing Burton, Wigan and Rotherham at current rate. We'll be playing Hull City, Sunderland and Swansealona as things stand! LOL :ayatollah: :laughing6:

I'm not sure that our current squad is good enough to keep us away from the relegation places.

We are only a couple of injuries away from having to play fringe players who have shown that they are not good enough.

I would like to see a couple of quality signings if we can get them to help get us as far away from the relegation place as possible and lay down some foundations for next season rather than trying to replace eight or nine players during the summer.

Warnock wants to start building now. If he can pick up a few good deals its less work that needs to be done in the summer. Also, our squad is now pretty thin, a few injuries and we could be really scrapping the barrel.

And we are in no way safe from the bottom 3 and loss to Burton and were back in amongst it.

Totally agree. Was not suggesting spending cash on fees just a few loans to get some competition in certain positions.

Need a keeper and goal-scoring winger minimum.

Theres no doubt we need more creativity and pace in midfield and a striker who can secure more goals if we want to dramatically improve. However, if Warnock is able to see that by making adjustments to the team some improvement becomes apparent and will be enough to ensure we dont get relegated then now might not be the time to splash the cash. It depends on value and when that value can be obtained. Maybe Healey can get some game time and will prove a success and in which case it might be wiser to hold on till the summer by which time Warnock might have a better idea of the reinforcements he needs to make. However, if a golden opportunity arose now who would refuse it?

The case for bringing them in now is it gives more bedding-in time, trying to bring in what might be 6-8 players in one go in the close season could cause a bit of carnage and take a while to settle. A few (lower cost) players now, and a few higher prize targets in the summer would be best, IMO.
