Then Tom James left the Bluebirds for Yeovil.

And now it looks like Theo Wharton could depart to Slade’s Sky Blues.


Bellamy has been asked by Tan and Choo to totally revamp the youth and make it smaller.

Looks like Craig Bellamy’s proposed revamp of the Bluebirds’ youth structure is in full motion. He wants to merge the U23s and U18s.


Cardiff City's under 18's lost 6 nil last week to Charlton from the lower leagues.

Let's be honest, unless a player is at least knocking on the door of the match day squad by the time they are 20/21 the odds of them making it, particularly at Championship level, are pretty low.

People of top quality are banging the door down at 16/17 never mind 4 or 5 years later (e.g. Ramsey). I think a couple of the players realeased are 20/21 and they've been nowhere near the match day squad.

there will be exceptions but this step seems to be absolutely in keeping with a lot of the big clubs, concentrating of the top prospects who can, realistically, make it into the first team within a reasonable period.

Got to agree with this younger players have stagnated with us.

Yes your right Gareth, but then Slade was Tans yes man when he was here.

While its true that Slade was Tans Yes man it is illogical to blame Tan for Slade, or any other manager, not playing youngsters.

If Slade wanted to stick youngsters on the bench and play them I dont believe Tan would have complained.
If they would then go on to be regulars it would have saved money on transfers and even be worth something.

Which youngsters could he have realistically played? He was the manager who showed faith in Ralls and give him a run but there is nobody else.

None of the players leaving are being snapped up by clubs at our level.

I trust Warnock and Bellamy to find the best players in the area, it's not ideal, but maybe it needs ripping up and starting again, as haven't produced good enough players for quite some time.

Sorry Annis, I can't agree with that. I train down the same gym as Leyton Orient squad use and they all told me, when we got Slade that he never gave any youngsters a chance and when he had his 16 players, no one else got a look in there.

Sorry Annis, I can't agree with that. I train down the same gym as Leyton Orient squad use and they all told me, when we got Slade that he never gave any youngsters a chance and when he had his 16 players, no one else got a look in there.

I heard the same from an Orient fan in work.

Also, if Tan is so anti youngsters why would he invest millions in the Academy and facilities that go with it ?

Not really worried by that Charlton result. Nearly all the team City put out still qualify for the U16s so an extremely young team against a Charlton side that has dominated the league at this level for several years now (don`t let the fact that their first team is in League 1 fool you).

Cardiff City's under 18's lost 6 nil last week to Charlton from the lower leagues.

Not really worried by that Charlton result. Nearly all the team City put out still qualify for the U16s so an extremely young team against a Charlton side that has dominated the league at this level for several years now (don`t let the fact that their first team is in League 1 fool you).

Results at U21 and 23 are not the b all and end all although winning is a great habit to get in. It's more about performance and keeping players fit. Plenty of big physical teams do well at youth level with hoof ball technique.

Let's hope once bitten twice shy - it's a learning curve for Tan and in all honesty he's had a few- let's hope it's the dawn of a new era and we can get back to producing the Earnshaws, Collins', Lesley's and Ramsey's of the past
