Goalkeeping coach leaves the club
By Chris Wathan
12/01/17
Cardiff City goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson has left the club.
He’ll join Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff at Crystal Palace.
Margetson worked under Allardyce during his brief tenure as England manager, leaving a job with Wales to take up the gig with the Three Lions.
He performed the role whilst continuing his work with Cardiff.
The Welsh club are yet to confirm Margetson’s departure but Allardyce confirmed it in a press conference this morning.

See him next year then?

Thankfully we will now get in a goalkeeper coach that improves the goalies not making them worse

Gone again, no loyalty don't take him back next time let him go to Torquay.

Good riddance to him and I am sure its just for the money. Lets hope we get better than him.

Welcome on board Andy Dibble.

I couldn't believe it when he left the Welsh set up to join England.
You have to philosophical about it as I don't know what sort of financial package England were offering but you would have thought he was well paid anyway and it smacked of money grabbing. I find it hard to believe that he would have been that better off from the move and for me its not something you do at international level, its your country at the end of the day.
He went down in my estimations after that.

I must admit on the face of it he has not been doing a great job lately.
A house was on fire. A woman appeared at an upstairs Window. she was clutching a baby and screaming, "my baby! my baby! save my baby!" "throw the baby to me!" shouted a young man. "I'll catch him" "You might drop him."Shouted the woman. "I'm a professional footballer." Shouted the man. " My name is Ben Amos I'm a goalkeeper for Cardiff City. The woman looked shocked "my baby! my baby! Someone save my baby!"
Another man turned up. Hey I also play for Cardiff City my name is Brian Murphy, I'm very good at catching, The baby will be safe with me." The woman who was a City supporter threw down the baby to the young man who put all his professional expertise into operation, and he expertly caught the baby. Then, unthinkingly, kicked him over the garden wall. I will get my coat.

Great job for an ex keeper - spend all day teaching a man how to dive, catch, punch a ball and kick it straight.
Pointless modern day football overkill.
Just who are all these people in grey raincoats who sit with the subs on match day? Better if the money was spent on players rather than back room staff.
All a club needs is a manager, an assistant coach and a man to run on to the pitch with a bucket of water, a bandage and the magic sponge.

He made that mistake once by leaving Wales for England? Oh well. No sentiment to a traitor.

Do we receive a fee ?
Thu Jan 12, 2017 12:43 pm
Don't know about recieving a fee I'd gladly pay Crystal Palace a fee to take him off our hands

The later reports say Cardiff wasn't going to renew his contract.
Seems like Warnock not impressed with Margetson and wanted a change - and a coach he knows and trusts.

Sam owed him that!

Underwhelming news.

Kevin Blackwell is an ex goal keeper so surely he will have some input on goal keeper coaching

What's underwhelming about it?
Margetson has been at the club for some time and I would say it's pretty relevant; certainly in comparison to your contribution above

'Underwhelming' in the sense that he was not that highly rated, as can be seen from other posts. 'Underwhelming' does not mean that it's not relevant, or that it's not important. It is. Think you misunderstood what I meant.

I agree.
Goalkeeping coaching is "pointless modern day football overkill"?
Bob Wilson was Arsenals goalkeeping coach in the late 70's
