' Neil Warnocks Call For Money This January '
" Warnock is 100 per cent correct to call for money to be spent this month "

Neil Warnock has reiterated his desire to buy players in January
Neil Warnock won’t have overseen many better squads during his long and distinguished managerial career, but he has been itching for the transfer window to open. Having arrived mid-season, he has not yet had a chance to make his mark in terms of recruitment, reliant on only free agents until now.
Having successfully mined that particular market for two players, Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett, that have made a significant difference, he is now afforded the opportunity to wheel and deal at his leisure, with players likely to move in both directions.
Having fallen victim to Financial Fair Play regulations this time last year, Cardiff will be keen to remain within the set parameters and keep their wage bill in check though. As long as the rather disappointing attendances remain, those restrictions are set to continue.
Recently, Warnock stated: “If we didn't sign a player I'd be quite happy about staying in the league, but we want to put foundations down and move up the league. If the club wants to move forward it has got to have a better squad.”
It’s not all been negative, he also claimed that the emergence of Kenneth Zohore surprised him and may even save him a small fortune. “I think he's only going to get better. For me, he's the find of my time here. He's probably saved me £1.5m I would imagine. I can't see me buying anybody better than that.”
If Warnock needed any evidence to prove to the board that money will need to be spent during January, he can now point at the Fulham game. Having rotated half of the team, none of the fringe players stood out and, barring Bamba and Joe Ralls, the senior players also failed to impress.
The truth is that this performance was less of a surprise than the Aston Villa victory a few days earlier.
On the whole, Cardiff have consistently underachieved this season, with only the odd impressive performance or result to hint towards the level they are capable of reaching. It’s why they retain such a low league position.
This Cardiff squad is undoubtedly talented, but most of this group have now underachieved under three different managers. At some point you have to stop blaming the manager almost exclusively and start questioning these players. Warnock’s comments suggest that he has been thinking along these same lines and will surely echo this in any transfer talks with the board.
The veteran boss holds all the aces because if the board do not back him, his achievements will be in spite of transfer dealings and will further enhance his reputation. He will also have a ready-made excuse if things go south. If they back him and he steers Cardiff up the table, then he was right all along about the need to reinforce.
Warnock’s future at the club may also be at stake. If the club do not provide him with the means to improve this side, why would he stick around beyond this season? A pivotal month awaits.
He was very much a Paul Trollope player and was never likely to find favour with Warnock, who prefers 'blood and guts' to nimble artistry. He was a big earner that was struggling to make the match day squad, so in order to free up space on the wage bill, his departure was inevitable.
It was also likely that he would leave early in the window to afford Warnock more time to shop around, but the nature of his departure was still bitterly disappointing. Having reportedly paid as much as £2m for his services in the summer, to then write off that outlay by terminating the deal a few months later is no way to run a football club. It displays a lack of faith, patience and foresight.
Hopefully this is a one-off because a couple of years ago, this became the norm. Lumbered with an unmotivated collective of misfits after the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Juan Cala, Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Jo Inge Berget and Guido Burgstaller were all cut loose for the same reasons.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bruno Ecuele Manga leave in the same way later this month.
