Dons boss Derek McInnes today insisted he is ready to fight to retain Jonny Hayes after confirming Championship club Cardiff City are interested in the winger.
At the Dons’ Dubai training camp, McInnes confirmed there had been contact from Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock.
However, he shot down reports Cardiff had tabled a £500,000 bid for the Republic of Ireland winger who still has 18 months left on his contract.
Hayes is currently in the Middle East with the Dons for a winter weather training camp.
And should Cardiff step up their interest with a concrete offer, McInnes is determined to retain him.
On Hayes McInnes said: “There has not been a bid.
“Obviously it has been documented that a bid is anticipated.
“I spoke to Neil Warnock last week and he asked about Jonny’s availability.
“I told him that Jonny is a key player for us and we don’t want to lose, or sell any of our key players in January.”

There we go then, it's not just media talk, the manager has said contact has been made & I can see us getting him by the end of the window.

Cardiff City are ready to make a new offer on for Aberdeen's Irish star Jonny Hayes, HITC Sport understands.
The Bluebirds have been on Hayes's trail for over 12 months and they have already seen a £500,000 bid turned down this month.
Cardiff are now ready to return with a bid worth £1million to try and tempt The Dons into selling, and HITC Sport understands that Aberdeen are looking at possible replacements.
