Do mobile camaras work in the dark? Last night van parked in regular place but in pitch dark so could not be seen until late even on strait Rd And it was a poorly lit rd as well. Thought had to be visible or signs saying in operation on that Rd?

Well never seen a mobile van out after dark that's why asked! surprised could see plate as so dark on rd! ! Shows they are mostly money making machines

Saw one at 8.30pm the other week on manor way just over the flyover by Gabalfa.

That's a very well lit Rd the one this was on is dimly lit and van was parked in total darkness 30yds off Rd! ! In daylight can see it half mile away.

They may not have to tell you but there will normally be speed camera signs in the area which means that they can be positioned in that location.

Some times you will see a portable sign put up, but as for fixed signs that is ambiguous to say the least ? Sign on a48 carmarthen but that Rd is around 10mls long!! So can be anywhere? Same for m4 miskin to Cardiff! There are around 25 camera points between my home and uhw cdf!

They do Al. Infra Red night vision and only triggered if your speeding. Apparently can also detect if your not wearing a seatbelt or using a mobile. Great for dogging though.

I know fixed cams have infrared like port Talbot but as I stated never seen mobile ones at night .

Actually I thought it was a very good question. Like Allan I have never seen one parked up in total darkness. I have seen them out at night but only in well lit areas. Also fixed speed cameras use flashes so would mobile cameras do the same?

Have you seen inside a speed cam van? I have and nowhere on cam is an infrared device like on fixed cams? Yes could have presumed they can be used but as I said this was on unlit Rd so how did it see plates? Was looking for someone who difinitely new, it Wasn't humorous it was sarcastic answer to what was a serious question !!! But guess should expect such responses on here!

I am aware of someone being caught on Chepstow Road in Newport at 9:50pm on a Sunday night. Apparently, that unit was not lit up but it was in a reguularly frequented spot

Sites supposedly have certain qualifying criteria with which they are chosen and the units are generally 'regularly' at those spots. Was in designated spot but where it parks is in complete darkness at night, during day it can be seen from 600 yds away at least! ! As just said seen inside one and no ifrared dish on it like fixed cams so wondered how it worked?
