' LACKLUSTRE CITY GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT '

Sun Jan 08, 2017 1:38 pm

Neil Warnock put out a stronger side than many expected him too, it was a team that had plenty of experience and prior to kick off it was a team that you felt could get something from the game.

Cardiff 1 - 2 Fulham

Cardiff City Team : Murphy, Richards, Halford, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett, Huws, Ralls, K Harris, Pilkington and Lambert.

It was an early kick off in the capital and on the performance I wonder if most of the City team were still rubbing the sleep from their eyes.

The attendance was bad today and those who ventured down did not have a lot to cheer about.

Warnock gave Greg Halford is debut and also handed first year professional Mark Harris 22 mins to make his City bow.

Despite taking an 8th minute lead through a deflected free kick from Anthony Pilkington, City were truly awful today.

We stood off Fulham all game and the Londoners took full advantage.

It was a dominant Fulham performance which showed in the possession stats 72% - 28%.

Joe Bennett had his most difficult afternoon in a City shirt with Ryan Fredricks giving him the runaround all game so much so that both Fulham goals came down that side.

There were players out there today who I would have thought would have tried to force their way into the first team regulars, the likes of Jazz Richards and Emyr Huws, but they won't see much of the first team league matches anytime soon on today's display.

Rickie Lambert, may not have pace, but his lack of movement was shocking, it was that simple.

Ralls didn't help him out too much either trying to play balls over the top and expecting Lambert to run.

Sol Bamba was our man of the match but in truth there was very little to choose from.

City will play better than that, they couldn't possibly be any worse, but if they don't improve drastically on today's lacklustre showing then we could be be in for an extremely difficult second half of the season.

We seem to struggle against nippy little teams because of our lack of pace. Fulham were very good in-form team so I'm too worried. Gives NW some scope for a good clear out of fringe players.

28% possession at home, most of which we kicked aimlessly back to Fulham. :o

Why oh why do we let teams have as much of the ball as they want and make virtually no attempt to win it back off them. We stand off the opposition and let them have as much possession as they like right up to our box (and often inside the box as well!).

Yet whenever we have the ball and we are put under even the slightest bit of pressure we panic and kick the ball anywhere!

They are a decent side no doubt but today we just rolled over and let them do exactly what they wanted when they wanted.

Needs to get rid of more than just fringe players I'm afraid. Very few of that team that played today are good enough.

Complete shambles from the Aston Villa game.Ricky Lambert waste of space -poor signing no effort, plus a few others.

Lambert is a proven quality goal scorer....but he needs service and support from other players around him...he got neither today

The best £10 I've ever saved today.
No passion, no interest, no urgency, no pressing.
We have nothing in the midfield without Gunnar's passion and Whitts skill and composure. Ralls was shocking as was Huws.

Afraid I have to disagree with Carl. I never believed it was a game we could something out of. All the signs coming from the club all week was that this was a competition the club were not going to concentrate on. One of the reasons I did not attend was because I fully expected it to be a lack lustre performance with us probably losing 2 or 3 nil. Our first team players are not exactly setting this division on fire, so I don't see why we could expect todays team to put on much of a show. The whole game was predictable as it has been all week. I doubt if we will see a repeat performance against Bristol, and I am certainly not going to read too much into today's performance.

Warnock needs to look at the front cover of the programme.
It said FA Cup 3rd Round.

I have just watched a reserve match and I feel cheated.

" I can have a look at a few players who don't normal get a game" ...... is usually the phrase used for reserve games.

Absolute crap from the selection, tactics and effort put in by the players.

Should have read this forum through the week. A lot on here predicted this would be a reserve team fixture watched by just a handful of people.

Don't be afraid.
He just watches the games like you or me.
I think Warnock set the tone in his interview referring to the tie as uninspiring etc.

That doesnt make it ok. I wouldnt exactly call it a reserve team tbh but either way the least the people who made the effort to get to the stadium deserved was some effort back from the players.

Warnock just stood on the touchline hands in pockets no better than Slade hiding under has cap arms folded. He should have been rollicking them.

Let's be honest the likes of Jazz and Huws etc can have no complaints about not being in starting 11 after performance like that. Bennett had his worse game for Cardiff. Bamba only player who looked half decent.

how can you say it was a reserve game 6 players that started v villa they just didn't want to be there apart from bamba the team he put out today was good enough to win but they just didn't want to know i was there and it was a day out which is the best i can say

Apart from Huws and Richards (Whos been injured) they were all first team regulars wether that be starting or on the bench.

It does'nt make it right agree, but unfortunately a sign of the times. Obviously not a complete reserve team, be interesting to see how many who started today will start against Bristol. As far as I am concerned, if the club were deadly serious about winning today and hopefully having a bit of a cup run, the strongest possible team would be selected. We knew all week that our strongest side would not be starting today. The fact that this was not the strongest eleven shows that this competition was not high on their list of priorities this season. The days when the 3rd round ties were long antcipated and played in front of huge crowds have gone forever.
