Curtis looks set to be left out of Paul Clement's first team coaching set-up

A former Swansea City player has criticised the decision of the club to not include Swans legend Alan Curtis in new manager Paul Clement's first team coaching set-up.

Andy Legg, who played more than 150 times for Swansea between 1988 and 1993, took to Twitter to vent his frustration with the decision.

Curtis has since gone on to hold a number of positions at the club, including being first team coach to successive managers after being appointed by Michael Laudrup in 2012.

Legg tweeted: "Absolute joke not to keep Curt on the coaching team, where's the loyalty gone in the game.

"Bad, bad decision and sends out a wrong message."

Legg, who played along side Curtis for Swansea in the early nineties, was nost recently manager of Welsh Premier League side Bangor City.


The reaction from many Swans fans to the news regarding Curtis has been one of disbelief, with most assuming he had a job for life at the club.

That may well still be the case, but perhaps not from the touchline.

A Swansea City spokesperson said: "Paul Clement is in the process of finalising his coaching set-up and nothing has been decided yet.

“Whatever is decided, Alan Curtis will have a prominent role within the club going forward.”

He also questioned the loyalty of the club - Curtis has been with the club intermittently since he first stepped out at the Vetch at the age of 17.

Disagree with Legg on the loyalty part, there is no room for sentiment in football regardless of contribution for me.

I disagree. Not sure what hes getting at with the no loyalty thing. If anything they have been loyal to him for years keeping him on.

Why should he be kept on the coaching staff, Clement should be able to bring him own team in, plus theres nothing to say they wont keep iim on in another capacity.

The club will have lost a good man for the jacks he's held the team together over the years and done a fantastic job .

Like others on here, I disagree with him, Curtis has had a good run at the Club in various backroom/frontline positions. New manager new ideas, sadly it makes sense. I wish they kept him on, this new guy is making all the right noises, a couple of signings in January and they'll be staying up, hope I'm proved wrong. Looks like he'll be kept on in some made up role anyway!
