Bluebirds Snap Up ‘The Shark’ In Bid To Give Attack More Bite

By: Terry Phillips

Neil Warnock Confirms

January 04, 2017

The Bluebirds have succeeded in their shark-hunting mission,he is a 20 year old Striker.

Manager Neil Warnock has snapped up Harrow Borough pace ace Ibrahim Meite, a 20-year-old striker who is known as ‘The Shark’ due to his predatory instincts.

Meite, who is from South West London, has had a trial spell with manager Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City and attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, but Warnock has moved in quickly to snap him up.

Less than five years ago Leicester dipped into non-League football and signed Jamie Vardy from Conference club Fleetwood Town. His goals helped the Foxes win Championship and Premier League titles.

Meite has not been under contract with Ryman League Harrow and Cardiff won’t officially have to pay a transfer fee.

Warnock has confirmed that he has signed a non-League forward, but the Bluebirds have not yet officially confirmed who the player is.

Meite was tracked by scouts throughout Harrow’s FA Cup run this season, scoring in three successive rounds as they progressed to the first round proper before losing at Northampton Town.

Meite, a tall, rangy striker with a long stride and an explosive burst of pace, has been a prolific scorer for Harrow this season, netting 17 times in 30 appearances.

He grew up on a council estate in Roehampton, south-west London, and admits he put playing football in the street with his friends ahead of homework.

“I came from not a very good area and grew up with a love of football, the bad pitches,” said Meite. “I never came from an academy or anything like that, it was just football every day after school.

“Around 15 and 16 I was a bit naughty, not going to school, and my parents sent me to the Ivory Coast for two years. I was in a football academy there.

“But it was good experience, it made me who I am.”

Meite also went to America to expand his football knowledge and then returned to London where he worked with the AG Football Academy before joining Harrow.

Chelsea are among Premier League clubs who have watched Meite, while AFC Wimbledon, Bristol City, Oxford and Peterborough have also tracked the striker.

Harrow Borough manager Steve Baker says: “He’s still very raw, but his potential is absolutely huge. He’s got pace to burn and scores goals. If you’ve got those two attributes you’ve got a real chance of being a success in the game.

“He’s not under contract at the club, which is disappointing. But there have been occasions at our club and other non-league clubs in the past when Football League clubs give us a fee or put clauses into contracts as they know our situation, so hopefully that would happen.”

Cardiff’s next match is against Fulham at home in the FA Cup this Sunday (11.30am). Meite, of course, is ineligible because he has already played for Harrow in the competition.

I love this kind of signing.

Well done the club and NW.

Fans are likely to be more graceful and give him more time than other more costly players with higher expectations. I'd be happy to see him on the bench and making a few appearenaces towards the end of the season.

We haven't had a 'raw' pacey player for some time.

Saadi springs to mind mate!

Saadi's problem is fitness, not sure where he is up to now but people at the club told me he had a lot of work to do, guess we will see when he finally comes back.

So did Harold Shipman and look where he ended up :laughing5:

No in all fairness Wez is spot on with the assumption, apparently he's been touted as the next Jamie Vardy so that tells me all I need to know.

Welcome to Cardiff Ibrahim :bluescarf:

In the past I'd be inclined to agree but given the way Warnock has ripped up the dev. squad, Bellamy seeming to be tasked with bridging the gap between between the youth system and the first team plus our lack of a pacy poacher style striker I have a suspicion we may see him in the first team squad at some point this season if he lives up to his reputation? :ayatollah:

He's playing week in & week out in the Belgian Pro League. Saadi is 110% match fit.

I'd like to see him play - blood him this season and then give him more to do next year- he'll be hungry for it - would be interesting to see whether they could swap Fred for Saadi?

He played all three qualifying games and scored in each of them. Harrow lost 6-0 to Northampton in the first round proper.

Do you get cup tied in lower leagues? Does the FA over rule games when the league teams enter?

Re: " CARDIFF CITY'S FIRST NEW SIGNING CONFIRMED "

The article (by Terry Philips late of Wales Online) doesn't say that he has been on trial with Cardiff since early December and has already turned out for the u23s.

Warnock and Bellamy won't want to pack the development squad again after letting 10 (or thereabouts) players leave (to stop the 'bed blocking' for younger players and to change from quantity to quality) if there is little chance of them breaking into the first team. Mark Harris, Ibrahim Meite (if his signing is confirmed), Rhys Heeley and others on the fringe will at least be training with the first team, and a couple could well break in once we're a bit further away from the drop zone.

I'm not a fan of this 'one for the future' rhetoric that get's chucked out these days.

He's 20 not 12, if your good enough your old enough, I hope we actually get to see him rather than him being chucked in the DVP Squad for the next 2-3 years before ultimately getting released like loads have gone before him.

Hope he's good enough (when confirmed) to break into the first team, but can't help but think he'll end up being the next Rhys Healey and be shipped off on loan.

At 20years old in the Championship your not one for the future, u have to be ready now.
Many on here have stated 20/21 year olds if they have not made it with CITY by now they should be cleared out, so he should be at 20years old be ready for first team action.

I am also fed up of hearing this one is for the future, as they never are,it's become a joke that saying.
