"I bet you they spend the best part of £20 million in Jan"

Tue Jan 03, 2017 10:14 am

Championship rivals

Neil Warnock spoke to Talksport this morning, and he’s expecting big moves in the market from Birmingham City and their new boss Gianfranco Zola

"I bet you they spend the best part of £20 million in January"

"But in this league you can spend the best part of £10 million and it does not guarantee you anything in the Championship.
However, reports this morning suggest that Birmingham have pulled out of the race to sign highly rated Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury "

My Opinion

I've always said its not just about spending big big money, you have to have a good manager as well.

£10mill is nothing,to get out of the Championship.

Malky was a good manager.

Ole totally useless & costly

Slade boring, had class players so we were never going to be in trouble,a yes man,did Tans dirty work, suited Tans cause, but we were never ever going go anywhere, other than eventually be relegated once all the class players had gone.

Trollope, another yes man,but costly as he not only would of relegated us,he was bringing in costly useless players.

Slade was there to clean up Ole's and to a degree Malky's mess.Too many players and an unbalanced squad was a disaster.

He is a crap non inspirational manager, but he did his job. Warnock is championship illuminati. Tan needs to give him the cash and let him cull & buy. He will set us up for the next two or three seasons that way.

Warnock with his experience and know how will not need silly money to bring in good players .

I agree Slade has been harshly judged and did a good job all things considered. He did bottle it at the end of last season and that probably explains why he has never had a promotion on his C.V.

Sometimes you have to grasp the moment. As fans we are always going to say that the 'manager must be backed' no matter who he is.

However, now and again you know the right man is in place and he will do the right thing. I hope that there is some way of giving NW funds that will make a difference. I'm happy for the big bucks (if there are any) to be spent in the summer but a couple of million would do for this window.

Completely agree Annis! It's not how much you spend, it's how you spend it! Would much rather have an experienced manager who knows what kinds of player to sign at this level than a new manager who is fairly new to management. I have full faith in Warnock this January! :thumbright: :bluebird:

It will be so disappointing to have very good manager at city in Warnock and he will not be backed with funds after most of his p redaccesers have had millions give Neil the money ole had and well have a descent squad to challenge at the top.
I will be gutted if Warnock leaves us not having had a fair crack at it with the club's financial baking.
Football fair play rules come into it aswell so time maybe needed as I no we are close and we may even have to offload a player or two to B allance it up .so in this respect tan isn't allowed to throw money at it or is he .
I don't get it all or understand city's position at all.

If Malky is such a good manager how come no-one decent wants to give him a job?

And before you blame Tan good managers always get back into work regardless of any controversy. Big Sam is proof of that.

NW is 68,I don't think he will hang around past the summer if he is not supported in the summer transfer window at least.
Interesting times, if he walked away in the summer as he has done with other clubs.
Tan should be fighting tooth and nail to support him, if he walked I don't kn9w if the club could take more disruption when finally things are turning around

A fine balance.

Ffp means we.cannot spend huge. If we had a chance at promotion we could gamble and soend but risk ffp. 2 million on a few players at best but have to let.manga and noone go to do this unfortunately

Hoe many teams in the last few years have spent more than malky did to get us up and got nowhere with so called 'big name' managers?...

I'll answer for you... Lots.

Because a lot of teams are spending big this last 2 seasons it means some will fail. The season we went up there was very few spending the kind of money we did on players.

Flip that how many teams have got promoted by throwing money at it. Ill answer for you... Lots. We were one of them.

If Malky is such a great manager why didnt he show it at Watford or Wigan? Why hasnt he got another job since failing at Wigan?

You're argument is a double negative which is the lowest form of debate. The point has been made that if MM was such a great manager then he would have done better jobs at both Watford and Wigan plus he would be in a good job now.

He is not and the failure of other managers does-not change the fact he is not a very good manager when truly tested.
