Where was Whitts today??

Not in the squad at all, was he injured?

Injured at Brentford.

We certainly seemed much stronger physically in the midfield without Whitts, looking much quicker and winning a number of 50/50 balls which, to be frank, is not his strong point.

However, I thought our dead ball delivery was poor today with Bennett in particular finding it impossible to get the ball past the first defender.

Except against a team who were weak in the air, we would've been very dangerous from set pieces.

I'd still rather Whitts instead of Ralls.

I'd prefer Ralls all day long. Good performance from him again and great to see him score, albeit a scrappy goal. He needs more time to develop his confidence but, in time, if we can bring in the right creativity in midfield, I think he and Gunnar can help us develop a much more effective midfield platform.

Playing Bamba in midfield against a team that certainly wasn't looking to shut up shop worked very well. However, if Villa had scored first or held us out then Bamba and Gunnarsson are not the answer in terms of creativity.

What I like about Warnock is that he changes the team and tactics to suite the opposition. Even if Whitts had been fit Warnock might have made that change in any event. However, he will know very well that playing Bamba and Gunnarsson in midfield against Burton at home, a game we need to win, is just not an option that will work.

Whittingham has been our most creative player all season (one of the most creative in the Championship on stats), has chipped in with his fair share of goals and also topped the distance run in a number of games. He is first choice on merit.

Ralls has been poor all season until the last couple of games yet all of a sudden people want him in the team instead of Whitts

ralls has been poor all season not in my oppinion yes he has a dip in form but you answered the reason why some want him playing with your comment untill the last couple of games imo thats whats been wrong with us too often we keep picking players out of form .ralls is back in form and should stay in the team unless he has another dip .

But are you saying it's OK for Whitts to be dropped despite no dip in form ?

Once Manga is off to the African Nations Cup, then Bamba will revert to defence, Gunnar fill that midfield defensive role and Whitts return alongside Ralls.
With Big Ken up front the 4-1-4-1 worked a treat. We missed Whitts delivery on corners and free kicks , and also his ability to slow the game down. We needed that in the last half of the second half.
Once Zohore times his runs better then Whitts will be able to pick him out with long passes. We haven't had such pace and power up front for a long time.
