' Cardiff considering £500,000 bid for Aberdeen winger '

Mon Jan 02, 2017 12:12 am

Cardiff City are mulling over a £500,000 offer for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes — as the Dons face a battle to hold on to their brightest stars.

Daily Mail

Monday 2nd Jan 2017

The near 30 year old has been one of the Pittodrie side’s best performers this season and has discussed a new contract to extend a current deal running out in 2018.

Although Aberdeen skipper Ryan Jack has insisted that none of the squad will be in a rush to leave Pittodrie, an offer to move to England’s Championship – and the massive salary increase that would go with it – will be tempting for Hayes.

The former Leicester and Reading player scored the winner on Friday as the Dons beat Hearts to go third in the table, just two points – with a game in hand – behind Rangers.

The wide man’s performances have attracted attention from a number of clubs down south, with Cardiff manager Neil Warnock understood to be particularly keen.

The loss of Hayes in this month’s transfer window would be a serious blow for Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, who also has a number of first-team regulars on contracts expiring at the end of this season – meaning they’re free to talk to rival suitors now.

Niall McGinn has been linked with a pre-contract agreement switch to rivals Hearts

As it emerged that Hearts were keen on snapping up Northern Ireland star Niall McGinn on a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer switch, club captain Jack predicted that none of the Granite City men would be dashing for the exit.

Midfielder Jack, one of a group including Andrew Considine, Ash Taylor, Peter Pawlett and McGinn - among others – on deals scheduled to expire in a matter of months, declared: ‘Everybody is fully committed to the club, including myself. People will sort out their futures when the time is right.

‘I’m sure when the time is right the manager will sort that side of it out. We have had a busy December and a lot going on.

Aberdeen skipper Ryan Jack has insisted that none of the squad will be in a rush to leave

‘We are going into the break now and I will spend some time with my family. I am sure, when the time is right, the manager will sit down with who he wants to sit down with and sort that out.

‘I will cross that bridge when it comes - but the focus has been on doing the best I can for Aberdeen. I am fully committed to Aberdeen.

‘We have won three games in a row after being criticised. A lot has been asked of the team - and I think, if we weren’t committed, then that wouldn’t happen.

‘We wouldn’t have got together as a group of lads and agreed we had to start putting things right.’

Just off the phone with a mate who supports Aberdeen and he says Hayes is lightening quick and one of the best players at Aberdeen and he'd be gutted if he left, hopefully there's so truth in this one

Thats how I see Scottish football, even Rangers have two Accringhton Stanley players in their side this season and are second in the League. The standard in Scotland has gone down and down, look at Kenny Miller even he still shines up there.

If its an up and coming youngster then, def give him a chance :thumbright:

Pace at 29 in Scotland is different to the Championship pace

At 29 if he was any good he would have been snapped up well before now

Just my humble opinion :reindeer: :reindeer: :reindeer:

Wingers aren't that much of an issue with what league you play in.
It's the same thing really, if you are quick and can cross the ball youll always be a good winger.

I would go along with that. Craig Noone could be a great winger if he played as one. Instead he is a one trick pony always cutting in from the right and shooting with his left foot rather than playing on the left putting crosses in for our forwards.

With a goal scorer like Ricky Lambert in our side getting the ball into the box is a top priority rather than speculative shots which only work 2 or 3 times a season.

Ppl writing him off cos he's 29 or playing in Scotland is absolutely mad,if he's quick and direct and has an eye for goal then he has to be given a chance, some of the players you see in the championship from Scotland are very good so don't write him off yet.plus the fact he was at Leicester and reading but didn't make it means nothing Danny drinkwater was said to be poor by some of our expert fans he's now a premiership champion,Marko Antonio another who ppl said was average and now he's flying for west ham, where a player is playing doesn't necessarily mean he's not good enough each manager sees different things they like or dislike in a player and I'd dare to say warnock has more experience finding players than anyone on this forum

Exactly.
People on here writing him off already because of his age or their mate thinks he's no good.
If it does happen, lets trust Warnock and be a bit more positive ffs.

Typical comment from you. We've signed plenty of decent players from Scotland over the years, the standard is poor but have a bit of faith in Warnock you haven't even seen him play yet ffs.

Totally agree - Jay Bothroyd has to be the perfect example of right club and right player - had a journeyman record before he got to us and still one of the bext strikers I've ever seen down the City - but did nothing elsewhere. :ayatollah:
