Good appointment in the long term, but I don't think he is the type they need if they want to stay up in the short term. He is someone that will build something rather than put out immediate fires.

Who is Paul Clement?
Clement is a 44-year-old manager from Reading who is currently assistant to former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Where has he worked in the past?
He has worked at some of the world's biggest clubs in the shape of Real Madrid, Chelsea and now Bayern Munich.
Clement has a very close relationship with Italian Ancelotti, who he has also worked with at Paris Saint-Germain, and certainly wouldn't be phased when coming up against the likes of Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola in the Premier League if he was to take over at Swansea.
Paul Clement
He started his career as a coach at Chelsea's academy before switching to London rivals Fulham where he also worked in the youth set up either side of a short spell with Republic of Ireland's under-21s.
The 44-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge in 2007 where he worked as a coach before being appointed as assistant to Ancelotti for the first time two years later.
A brief spell with Blackburn Rovers in the 2012/13 campaign was followed by moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and then Derby County.
Does he have much experience as a manager?
No. In fact, his only first team experience as the main man came with Derby County last season.
He took over from former England boss Steve McClaren, who is now back in charge of the club, in June 2015 but was somewhat surprisingly sacked in February this year after only seven months with the club.
He secured 14 wins in his 33 matches in charge of the Rams - drawing 12 games and losing seven.

an excellent number 2, but not the right man for a relegation battle - Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern and now Townhill

I actually think its a good appointment (long term), treated badly by Derby . But I hope it all goes horribly wrong.
But knowing the Jacks they will go on a 15 match winning run and win the FA cup .

But if Swansea go down under him and being as football is these days, he'll probably get sacked end of season.

Another gamble, but he will have to dismantle that squad and build it again if given time. Even the most ardent jack fan will tell you the dream is coming to an end and quite badly. Football changes so quickly if it's not right at the top. " model club " " Swansea way " " established premiership team " I hope they collapse

As mentioned above Clement only managerial experience was at Derby last season.
2 seasons before Derby lost to 10 man QPR in the play off final. That was followed by collapsing in the final run in to miss out on the play off. They then went into last season spending £25m on players and started the season brighly under the new manager Clemnent. I recall they steamed rolled us at their place 2-0 in 2nd gear. They were a team now ready to go up to the premier.
Comfortably in 3rd place after playing us they were ready to move up. They then went on an eight game undefeated run ending up in the top 2. Into the New Year they lost their first game since losing to their local rivals Forest. The Forest game was the one before facing us in that 2-0 lose. They lost 2-0 to Middlesborough and that was the start of a 7 game run with no win resulting in them dropping down to 8th and the sacking of Clement.
With the last couple of seasons missing out most believe his sacking was a panic move. Even more so as his replacement was not an experience manager but their 1st team coach Wassell. They ended up scraping into the play off but blew it at their place 3-0 losing to the eventual play off winners Hull. They nearly repaired the damage in the return leg taking an ealy 2-0 lead but could not find the extra goal needed to square things off. Some claimed after that Clement would have seen them over the line. The management stuk by their decision elaborating on the fact they saw no improvement in the squad after spending £25m. Difficult one to judge.

Think they're trying to repeat history and pick up a man who was a very good coach, but had failed in previous jobs as manager. Fits the same mould as Rodgers, who worked under Mourinho and got jobs as manager of Watford and Reading and did nothing in both jobs. Bit like Clement under Ancellotti and his job at Derby, which ended up with him being sacked.

Paul Clement spent millions at Derby and failed. He only lasted half a season and that's his only managerial job to date. So Swansea have hired a manager who has no Premiership management experience, only has half a season management experience under his belt and failed at his one and only crack at management. They couldn't have made a worse appointment and they've got to be certainties for relegation now. Oh dear!
Sun Jan 01, 2017 6:30 pm
I think they appointed him as he's a good coach and Derby played some really good football under him. He is a good guy and given time think he can be good manager. But hopefully not enough time to turn them around. He would be good in championship if they keep him

Swansea 'Trust' spokesman say they have been part of the new manager selection process and that Paul Clement has a great pedigree although not in football management. Go White Sox.

Will do a job rebuilding but I feel isn't the guy to bring in that immediate spark for a premiership relegation battle
