Millwall fans certainly knew how to watch football matches

Did they take it (the floodlight) home with them?
A great image of some halcyon days at Ninian Park. They were a bunch to contend with and both sets of supporters kept the Law busy in and around the stadium!
As an aside, when first put up, the floodlights at Ninian Park were 'state of the art' and recognised as the best in the country outside of Wembley Stadium. I used to (still do) way prefer a floodlit midweek game to a sunny Saturday!

That photo is at Millwall, not NP.

I'm sure that's the Old Den, Chris. From what I remember they never really travelled in large numbers to Cardiff - the game in early 90s excepted.
I love the evening games too. Always seemed a better atmosphere somehow. Some of the NP matches under floodlights teased the senses. I can hear the grange end, see the floodlights, feel the atmosphere and smell the stale piss and hotdogs by the 'open air' toilets at the grange end corner of the Bob Bank. Memories I'll never forget.

My first and only visit to Ninian Park came when I was about 10 or 12 in (I think) the 73-74 season, although it may have been the season before. It was towards the start of the season and what I can remember is that I was on the side, near the players tunnel (I think), with the Grange end on my right.
Opposite was a bigger terrace that reminded me of the Kop at Blues. All through the first half, there were charges and big waves of fans parting as fighting went on, on the terrace opposite. At half time, the Cardiff fans seemed to get the better of things and the Villa fans ended on the pitch. I was delighted when the headed to the bit that I was in so that I could be part of them.
I loved the old grounds and sometimes the hostility that they held, I don't agree with some bloke getting a kicking off 20 cowards but sometimes the hostile atmospheres were part of it all. I absolutely hate these new grounds with no character whatsoever-I've not been to one that I've enjoyed being in. I'm so lucky that I had a mate who's dad was Villa mad. He went everywhere in the 70's, as I was growing up and I was able to go to loads of grounds, many of which don't exist any more and those that do don't look anything like they did back then.
I remember the Holte end floodlights used to get loads climbing up them for games, I did it myself for one game. I remember once, a kid climbed right to the top, while a game was going on. In these days of health & safety, someone would get sacked if that happened today.
