The lengths Aston Villa are going to for Jonathan Kodjia to play at Cardiff City

Birmingham Mail

Saturday 31st December 2016

Aston Villa have offered to lay on a private plane for Jonathan Kodjia to convince the Ivory Coast to let him play against Cardiff City.

Kodjia is due to report to a training camp in Paris early next week ahead of his country's involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Villa visit Cardiff City in the Championship on Monday and obviously want their top scorer to be involved in the match.

Boss Steve Bruce revealed that the club have offered to fly Kodjia to France in an attempt to get permission from the Ivory Coast.

Speaking after Kodjia scored a late penalty equaliser in Thursday's 1-1 draw with Leeds United, Bruce said: "We need the Ivory Coast to play a little bit of ball with us.

"All the other teams seem to have let their players.

"We're trying to put on a private plane for him so he can fly to Paris to meet up with them.

"But at the moment it looks a bit of a stalemate so we'll just have to wait and see and keep trying."

Ghana have granted Villa permission to play Jordan Ayew at Cardiff.

Someone on this forum said earlier in the week that they thought the Villa defence looks very poor, and they were very dodgy against Leeds. Villa have conceded 23 goals to our 38, so that suggests both teams could do better. Looks like this could end up in a 5-4 win to either side, but I have a feeling there are'nt going to be many goals in this game. Going for a 0-0 draw.

Yet only Newcastle, Brighton & Derby have conceded less than 23.

I think the poster was probably referring to the Villa defending in the Leeds game. I did'nt see it so am going on the comments made on this forum. I know he was critical about the Villa defending, and my thoughts were that we have nothing to shout about when it comes to defending this season. We are where we are on merit. Unfortunately for us, we still have the same players to choose from for the Villa game as we have for our previous games. They have been nowhere near good enough so far this season, and I can't see much changing for a while. I see nothing to indicate that we can beat Villa, but I am hopefull that we can manage a draw and another crucial point in our fight for survival. We are in desperate need of strengthening in crucial areas.

Have a feeling its a lot of Villa buying in home ends as well, either that or families/people that show for only the big games as its usually the Canton that fills first.

They defended poorly from a couple of corners and the left back Amavi was struggling to compete with Sako's pace, that was all really. Ironically, despite the firepower up front, that is the area that Villa really struggle. We don't score anywhere near enough goals to justify the total value of our strike force.

One of my early matches was Villa at Ninian Park. We won 4-0 that day with Toshack getting a couple, and Villa ended up being relegated to the old Div 3. Unfortunately, there is no chance of a repeat score this time. I still think whatever the result, Cardiff will still be playing Championship football next season, and perhaps we will be in a stronger position to compete with the likes of Villa in the 2017/2018 season. Over the years, when Villa have been in the same league as Cardiff, there has normally been a big crowd and a lot of interest as Villa have always been a big draw for fans.

Neil Warnock seeking revenge for Aston Villa defeat and wants to see a big New Year's crowd at Cardiff City Stadium

By Dominic Booth

Sunday 1st December 2017

The Bluebirds lost their Championship clash at Villa Park at the start of December.

Neil Warnock wants Cardiff City to start 2017 with a bang by avenging their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa earlier this season when they face Steve Bruce's side.

Albert Adomah opened the scoring for the hosts in the November meeting at Villa Park before Rickie Lambert levelled proceedings four minutes later to send the away supporters into raptures.

But a goal from Jonathan Kodjia along with former Cardiff man Rudy Gestede's 90th minute penalty earned Villa all three points against the Bluebirds who had Lee Peltier sent off late on.

And Warnock was keen to put that result right with a victory at Cardiff City Stadium, as the Bluebirds look to rectify their faltering home form this season.

Neil Warnock directs his team during the 2-2 draw at Brentford
"I’ve got to say I was disappointed not to get a result at Villa back at the end of November, I though we did ever so well there," Warnock told the club's official site.

"We conceded bad goals at silly time though, just as we were in the ascendancy – and then I was really disappointed with the red card Pelts was shown.

"I’m looking for us to give a better account of ourselves this time around."

Cardiff go into the match having missed out on their clash with Championship leaders Brighton at the Amex Stadium after the game was called off due to thick fog covering the pitch.

And Warnock admitted he was disappointed his side did not get the opportunity to have a crack at halting the astonishing run of Chris Hughton's league leaders.

Aston Villa will provide a similarly stern test, with just two defeats in their last 10 matches.

"We all wanted to play (at Brighton) and have a go at halting their 17 game run," added the Cardiff manager.

"We were all disappointed, but at the end of the day you have to accept the decision.

"You could say that the plus side is that we’ve had an extra day’s rest, but when you take into account the travelling over the two days it hasn’t given us much if I’m honest.

"Things are changing so quickly with so many games this time of year, but there are obviously the injuries to Lee Peltier and Peter Whittingham [picked up at Brentford on Boxing Day] that we’re going to have to assess ahead of kick off on Monday.

"Both have a chance, but we’ll just have to wait and see."

NEIL WARNOCK "l FOCUS NOW FIRMLY ON VILLA"

Bluebirds Boss Neil Warnock has called on his side to kick off 2017 in the correct way

CARDIFF CITY FC

01/01/16

Bluebirds Boss Neil Warnock has called on his side to kick off 2017 in the correct way on Monday against Aston Villa – and make amends for the disappointment at Villa Park back in November.

Rickie Lambert’s goal in Birmingham drew City level midway through a frenetic first half, though a Jonathan Kodjia header towards the end of the forty-five – coupled with a ninetieth minute Rudy Gestede penalty - saw the points stay on home soil.

“I’ve got to say I was disappointed not to get a result at Villa back at the end of November, I though we did ever so well there,” said Neil to cardiffcityfc.co.uk. “We conceded bad goals at silly time though, just as we were in the ascendancy – and then I was really disappointed with the red card Pelts was shown. I’m looking for us to give a better account of ourselves this time around.”

City’s final game of 2016 would end up being the 2-2 draw at Brentford on Boxing Day, following Friday evening’s postponement of the Bluebirds clash at Brighton & Hove Albion’s AMEX Stadium.

Neil reflected: “We all wanted to play yesterday and have a go at halting their [Brighton’s] seventeen game run. We were all disappointed, but at the end of the day you have to accept the decision.

“You could say that the plus side is that we’ve had an extra day’s rest, but when you take into account the travelling over the two days it hasn’t given us much if I’m honest.”

As for playing personnel, the Boss was hopeful of a clean bill of health but advised pre-match assessments would be needed over the fitness of two key figures.

“Things are changing so quickly with so many games this time of year, but there are obviously the injuries to Lee Peltier and Peter Whittingham [picked up at Brentford on Boxing Day] that we’re going to have to assess ahead of kick off on Monday,” he said. “Both have a chance, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”

And with tickets still available for the Bluebirds’ hosting of Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa, Neil cited a vibrant start to 2017, adding: “We’re expecting a good crowd for this one and with Villa bringing a large contingent it promises to be a great atmosphere. We’re looking forward to it.”

I have a feeling about this one but I've had these feelings before and I've been wrong.
I just feel with Warnock saying things how they are in the public eye about players .
I think it's about time this team gives us a performance the boss man craves so much .Big crowd it's Villa and if we win confidence will go right up Warnock will be desperate for the win .The players will be desperate for a good all round team performance for 90 Mins plus or face Warnock again and the fans just want 100 % in a blue shirt .I think it's our day today it's all set up for that so hopefully we all go home happy.
Good luck city don't forget 100 % in a blue shirt please.
