Darlington's football club returns to hometown

Since Darlington went out of the Football League and went bankrupt, they started back up in the 8th division of the Non League Pyramid, the lowest league and had to play every home game away at Bishop Auckland.

They averaged 1,500 home crowds(which were never home games) and averaged 700 fans for they away games and some games over 400 would travel 300 mile round trips.

They now play in the same League as Gloucester City,Kidderminster and Darlington take over over 300 fans to these grounds, yet its an eight hour round trip, fair play real loyalty.

They are currently in The National League North, but does include teams like Gloucester, Halifax,Salford City.

Darlington 1883, will apply for their full name back in the next five years.

Darlington's Blackwell Meadows is the home of Darlington Rugby Football Club

Darlington's football club - now known as Darlington 1883 - has played its first match in the town for nearly five years.
It has been sharing a ground with Bishop Auckland FC since the original club went into administration in 2012, forcing it to leave its stadium.
It has now moved to Blackwell Meadows, the home of Darlington Rugby Football Club.
Director Richard Cook said it was a "special moment for us all".
"Being a Darlington boy, born and bred, being a fan of the club all my life, to be involved in actually leading the redevelopment and getting Darlington home has been an amazingly proud moment," he said.
The National League North fixture attracted over 3,000 spectators, which was a sell out. The club beat Halifax Town 3-2.

Darlington 1883 was required by the Football Association to change its name to differentiate itself from its old playing entity.
DFC 1883 Limited bought the assets of the former club's holding company through administrators.

In a weird sense I envy them. Travelling to grounds that they haven't been to before. Standing on terraces. Be a proper laugh and no wanker stewards either. Hmmmm

Great story this, as is the Hereford story. Two clubs we've had as opponents in our recent past. Both very well supported now. The adversity seems to have brought people together. Merthyr could be in that League next season

I would love Merthyr to go up :thumbright: :ayatollah:

It certainly brings fans together and a club grows stronger :thumbright: :thumbright:

Allan, back again with sarcasm, they are a very proud club and their fans have stuck together and they are on their way back up the Leagues. They will get their full name back after 10 years like Newport County did :thumbright:

Why not commend, passionate, proud, loyal fans, some of our fans can never applaud other loyal/diehard fans, very sad, no wonder we are not like we were.

Thought its a forum for all opinions good or bad ! Take look at your hundreds of threads on other clubs support you won't find one post from me on them that's how much I care about them! As for red well not bitter and twisted about it and never supported it just like the 99.9% of city fans, just more important things in life to worry about than things I had no control over

Got a few mates in work who are Hereford fans. They are absolutely loving going to all of the random little grounds in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire & Devon following them the last 2 seasons. Regularly taking 500+ to away games. Great for the coffers of the home club too.
