One on Neil Warnocks main Targets for this January.

Injury

It’s not great news to start with unfortunately as transfer target Callum Paterson has been ruled out of action for up to 10 months after suffering a knee injury while playing for Hearts against Kilmarnock.

NEIL WARNOCK:

Warnock on rampant Brighton...

"They’ve won 17 games haven’t they?
They’re a good side. The front four are as good as anything in the league. The first goal for Baldock (against QPR) was Premier League class. I don’t think any defence would’ve stopped that."

"We’re not supposed to get anything. We’ve got one or two illnesses and injuries. We’ve got to try and be organised. 17 games they’re undefeated. They’ve got so many professionals and know how to see games out. We’re a little naive in that department. They’re great fans there as well. Everything’s bubbling there at the minute."

Richardson and Chamakh depart

The boss has confirmed the two October free transfers have left the club. This is what he said....

NEIL WARNOCK: "They’ve both (Richardson and Chamakh) left the club in the week.
I can’t see much movement (in the table) until we’ve improve the squad. I know what everyone can do, I’ve seen everyone now and we do need fresh blood in the squad."

More on injuries and suspensions

NEIL WARNOCK: " Sol Bamba will be back in the squad. We were disappointed about Pelts at the time (against Brentford), I felt we would’ve won the game if he wasn’t injured. We need a utility player in January. We need more choice on the bench.
Whitts has got a slight calf strain. Whether we’ll risk him i’m not sure, same with Peltier. We’ll have to make decisions with those two."

"Whoever’s out there I’m sure we’ll get them ready."

Re: ' NEIL WARNOCK LIVE TODAY '

Thu Dec 29, 2016 2:13 pm

BRIAN MURPHY

Neil Warnock: " You’ll have to wait and see. I felt it was important to change that position and I felt it was justified. It will be a good test for him at Brighton and Villa."

Warnock wants 'desire'

The 68-year-old manager is looking to his current crop of players to show the necessary ‘desire’ before the transfer window opens.

"We’ve had our friendly discussions. The lads know where I’m coming from."
"They all know what I’m expecting of them, a little bit more responsibility, talking and desire at times in certain areas.
Whether the individuals I’m talking about have got it in their make up I don’t know."

NEIL WARNOCK:

'No movement until we improve the squad'

"I can’t see much movement (in the table) until we’ve improved the squad. I know what everyone can do, I’ve seen everyone now. We do need fresh blood in the squad. I dont think its as severe as people think. I don’t think it’s going to be drastic measures. We have to be more disciplined. I’m not asking the lads to do anything they can’t do. I’m asking them to be more professional in certain situations."

"It wasn’t rocket science, the lads will put their hands up to what I’m telling them to do."

Not enough leaders'

Is there a vacuum of leaders in the Cardiff City squad? Warnock thinks so

"I don’t think we’ve got enough talkers or leaders. Even the lads you’d expect to talk held their hands up and said they didn’t talk enough. "

"We can’t do everything on the bench. They’ve got to think for themselves. They’ve got to lead and not go in a shell. "

"One of our strengths since I’ve been here has been our organisation. After Barnsley, to lose after nearly scoring at the end to win it was criminal."

Oooo I wonder who the non league player is. There was a rumour on here a week or so ago about a black striker from Barrow (I think). Wonder if it's him.

" JAZZ RICHARDS IS BACK "

Warnock:

"It’s getting players in so we’re not in the situation like we were in the last couple of games."

"Jazz Richards has trained for the first time this week. If we’d had someone like that on the bench the other day I’d have been happy. We’re so thin on the ground and it’s frustrating that we’re talking about being on 24 points. We’ve got to improve in the second half and we can only do that with an influx of players."

NEIL WARNOCK:

'We need fresh blood'

"You’ve got to invest in players and improve."

"We’re that kind of club, like Brighton. I can compare up with them. We want to be where they are. It’s hard work to get there. It doesn’t come overnight."

"It’s going to be a battle. When you see the points we’ve thrown away in recent week. We have to rectify that straight away. I’ve seen one or two areas where we need fresh blood."

Warnock as honest and informative as ever!

The difference between him and other recent managers/coaches at the CCS is actually knowing what he's talking about and that affords him some latitude! :ayatollah: :laughing6:

Ibrahim Meite’s potential is ‘absolutely huge’, says Harrow Borough boss
By Sean Gallagher

Harrow Borough striker Ibrahim Meite was on trial at Premier League champions Leicester City earlier in the season and (Borough) manager Steve Baker believes Ibrahim Meite’s potential is “absolutely huge” and says he would be delighted if the young striker landed a contract at a professional club.

The 20-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from Football League clubs as well as top-flight sides, with Premier League champions Leicester City taking Meite on trial last week.

Meite was under consideration for a further period with the Foxes after impressing club bosses during his short stint.

AFC Wimbledon, Bristol City, Oxford and Peterborough are among the other clubs that have shown an interest in the striker, while Crystal Palace have also enquired about his services.

But Baker says Meite is keeping his feet firmly on the ground during a whirlwind period.

He told the Times: “My phone hasn’t stopped ringing. Every time it’s rung it’s either been a manager or a scout from a League club enquiring about Ibrahim’s services.

“He’s a young lad who’s scored a lot of goals so far this season.

“He’s still very raw but his potential is absolutely huge. He’s got pace to burn and he scores goals. If you’ve got those two attributes you’ve got a real chance of being a success in the game.

“I’ve had a long chat with him and he’s got his feet firmly on the floor. He’s pleased with how it went at Leicester, but for the time being he’s fully focused on Harrow Borough.

“He’s been absolutely fantastic for us during the short spell he’s been with us, I can’t fault him.

“I’d be absolutely delighted if he landed a full-time contract at a League club – the only hard job for me would be replacing him.”

Baker added: “He’s not under contract at the club, which is disappointing. But there have been occasions at our club and other non-league clubs in the past when Football League clubs give us a fee or put clauses into contracts as they know our situation, so hopefully that would happen.”

Meite has played for us already...

Rovers added a point to their Premier League Cup tally in a low-key encounter in Cardiff.
On a tricky surface, it was a match in which both defences were on top throughout, with little in the way of goalmouth action at the Leckwith Athletics Stadium.

Andy Fisher tipped over a long-range strike from Tommy O'Sullivan on 16 minutes, before Scott Wharton should have done better from close-range but could only head straight into the arms of City keeper Luke O'Reilly.

The second half was similarly devoid of chances, but Rovers could have snatched the points at the death but as O'Reilly clawed away Wharton's header sub Daniel Butterworth saw his close-range effort on the follow-up deflect over the crossbar.

In overcast and chilly conditions there was little of note in the first 15 minutes of the Premier League Cup match, as both sides cancelled each other out. Andy Fisher in the Rovers goal called into action to tip over a long-range strike from Cardiff forward Tommy O'Sullivan.

With Rovers struggling to get any meaningful passing play going due to the bobbly surface, their best opportunities looked to be from set-plays. Matty Platt glanced a Lewis Travis free-kick wide of goal at the midway point of the opening half, but his fellow central defender should have done better five minutes later.

Platt himself saw a header cleared away in the six-yard box, and as the ball was put back into the area, the returning Wharton could only head straight into Luke O'Reilly's arms.

That was as good as it got in the first half, and the second was similarly light on goalmouth opportunities.

On 56 the hosts threatened on the break through Mark Harris who in turn fed Theo Wharton, but his cross was too high for half-time sub Ibrahim Meite.

With 12 minutes to go Rovers handed an Under-23 debut to Academy striker Daniel Butterworth. The young forward has seven goals to his name this season, and he'd come as close as anyone to breaking the deadlock in the final throes of the match.

A late corner from Connor Mahoney reached Wharton at the back post, his header was plucked away by O'Neill, Butterworth reacted quickly by firing in the rebound but it deflected over the bar to ensure the match ended goalless.

CARDIFF: O'Reilly, Rees, Tutonda, Welch (sub Waite 66 mins), James (c), Baker, Harris (sub Coxe 77 mins), Wharton, Phipps (sub Meite 46 mins), O'Sullivan, Abbruzzese.

Sounds like a negotiating stance to reduce Whitts money a bit.
Let's hope he's realistic about the situation rather than a nothing move to somewhere like Norwich
