Lower Division clubs Sheffield United and Bradford City make the top 8 of the three English League Divisions with Best home support on Boxing day.

Sheffield United had nearly 26,000 fans against bottom of division one Oldham Athletic and Bradford City had nearly 22,000 fans against Scunthorpe United making them the envy of some Championship clubs.

When compared to some of Europe’s major leagues in Italy, France and Holland, Sheffield United AND Bradford City's home gates surpass average attendances so far this season for clubs in Serie A (21,414), Ligue 1 (20,003) and the Eredivisie (18,907).

Once again the big guns of the Championship Newcastle and Aston Villa had the biggest crowds of the day a whopping home crowd of 52,179 at St James Park, for a night game and live on Sky tv,plus Aston Villa had 41,337 against little Burton Albion.
Both Newcastle and Aston Villa also sell out where ever they visit and home clubs having full capacity's.

Elsewhere in the Sky Bet Championship, both the Amex Stadium and Pride Park welcomed more than 30,000 fans for respective home wins for Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County.

In Sky Bet League Two, matches averaged over 5,500 with a combined total of 66,634 adding to the festive numbers.

The best attended match in Sky Bet League Two was at Home Park with over 12,000 supporters there for the game between Plymouth Argyle and Wycombe Wanderers while more than 9,000 made Luton’s match at Kenilworth Road.

As much as I dislike them, the fans in the steel city are loyal albeit built on generations of fans watching top flight football. Total respect for Bradford city. It's a shame our villa match wasn't on Boxing Day but it will still pull a decent crowd and good atmosphere.

The last time we were fighting relegation from this division (84/5) the crowds were pitiful.eg city v Middlesbrough 2,564.our crowds now by comparison are enormous.

The majority of clubs crowds have improved vastly since the 80's and our crowds were great in the 50's,60's and from the year 2000,they have increased significantly and we need to keep them :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Some of the years in the lower divisions our away support was the envy of the other clubs.

I was there when we had 36,000 and 20,000 at home to Hereford and Swindon in the 70's but they were one offs, same under Eddie Mays season, the crowds came back and dissapeared.

From the year 2000,City fans have had virtually nothing but success, Wembley after Wembley appearances, promotions and not been relegated from the Championship :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Bradford's crowds are artificially high due to extremely cheap season ticket prices. They had a massive social media campaign around cheap adult prices of £149

Still great crowds but this sort of cheap and aggressive pricing would work at many clubs.

Wayne,They've been doing this for the last five years :thumbright: and its lower division football.

Cardiff City were £50 and £99 for Under 16s and Under 21's for Championship football against many many big clubs.

We should admire and learn what clubs like Bradford, Pompey and Sheff United are achieving with their big crowds, instead we just make excuses.

Also the worst event in the clubs entire history the rebrand.for 2 seasons "Cardiff city the bluebirds" didn't exist my continuity of support since 1975 ended and didn't resume until the back to blue game against Fulham.

I do honestly believe Tans rebrand has lost us a couple of thousand hardcore fans and ruined our great once proud away support.

For us as a Club ultimately it all comes down to how the Club is doing in the League, if we are doing well then the cost becomes irrelevant up to a certain point, its been shown time and time again.

People don't want to come and watch us at the moment cos we are shit, that is the brutal truth. We have about 12-13,000 who are there whatever and about the same number who will go down when the Club is doing well or playing a big game.

The problem you would have if the Club followed the Bradford model is that people might buy the seats for £150 but it doesnt guarantee them turning up, only success can do that.

It's happening now, I have mates who got £99 season tickets and hardly go, in their own words, they only need to go to 5-6 games to make it worthwhile.

I hated the red as much as everyone but the problem is that during the red era we had record high crowds, which ultimately prove that most people didn't care what colour we played in as long as we were successful.

The tide only realy turned after we were relegated are started to do shit in the Championship again.

Problem is, South Wales is full of supporters of non-Welsh clubs, occasional egg fans, and 'sports' fans. We don't really have the depth of football support that exists in many, perhaps most, English cities of a similar size to Cardiff. Without the valleys and M4 corridor support, it would be less still. Our hardcore support is great, though :bluebird: :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

Agree but so far this season the biggest crowd for a domestic game in wales and the west in any sport you can mention is Cardiff v Bristol city.this will possibly be eclipsed by city v villa.

Plus
match day tickets at Bradford are the most expensive in league one.
