Should Cardiff City drop their out-of-form captain?

Cardiff City conceded another late goal to drop points against Brentford on Boxing Day and once again their captain Sean Morrison disappointed but should he be dropped?
Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison has been a much-debated figure since his arrival in 2014 with his mixed performances always serving up a debate on whether he should be dropped.
To his credit, he’s capable of delivering some brilliant defensive performances, especially if he has the right man next to him, like Sol Bamba. However, all-too often he is caught sleeping when he should be marking and Cardiff City often pay the price, especially of late.
The most recent of his poor performances arrived against Brentford on Boxing Day when the Bluebirds conceded late-on to throw away two points.
Joe Bennett should be stopping the cross on the far side first and foremost, but when the full-back doesn’t stop the cross, the centre backs have to do their job properly.
Bruno Manga is marking the front post option as he should and for some reason, Sean Morrison goes with him to mark the same player.
Morrison is then caught marking thin air and Sullay Kaikai drifts in unmarked to head home, and at first glance, it looks as if Matthew Connolly is caught short. However, Connolly’s man is behind and he’s desperately trying to get across to cover for Morrison when unfortunately, it was just too late.
Here’s another example and this one was against Barnsley in the Bluebirds’ 4-3 home defeat earlier in December. This one is even worse and this was Barnsley’s opener, ironically cancelling out Sean Morrison’s earlier goal which put Cardiff in front.
This situation created with a routine long, lofted ball towards the back post and you would always expect Sean Morrison to beat Sam Winnall to the ball, given his aerial ability.
Winnall does superbly here in improvising to find the net, but he should never be given this sort of opportunity in-behind a central defender.
Morrison should have been stuck to Winnall like glue here and then it’s as simple as a big header out for a corner, or away to safety.
These instances are becoming all-too common and although it’s never nice to drop your captain, it seems it’s very necessary for Neil Warnock if he wants his teams to start keeping clean sheets.
In recent weeks, it’s been impossible to drop Morrison with a real lack of options thanks to Sol Bamba’s ridiculous outburst against Ipswich Town.
However, Neil Warnock has the perfect opportunity to make a change this Friday against Brighton and Hove Albion with Bamba returning and Bruno Manga currently playing relatively well.
Cardiff haven’t been helped by poor performances from out-of-position and out-of-sorts Matthew Connolly but you can often get away with slip-ups in wide positions, while you can’t afford for your centre backs to make soft errors like Sean Morrison has during the last few weeks.
The image above is a snapshot taken from Brentford’s stoppage time equaliser and you can see Sean Morrison (number 4) has a big part to play in this goal.
