A forum for all things Cardiff City
Sat Dec 24, 2016 10:58 pm
The club I play for, Albion Rovers in Newport, have probably about 8 Cardiff City supporters. In training I often see a lot of Cardiff City tops, most about 6 at once. It's a shame we play every saturday as I know most've them won't attend that many Cardiff games. I have also noticed that the U14s, U12s, and so on, have a lot of Cardiff City supporters.
But I have clocked that on nights out, and just in pubs, Newport County fans always have a pop. I don't want to downgrade County, but they seem to attract a certain sort of fan - muppet, not popular in school sort. Its as if many Newport lads followed Cardiff City intially as it was a "cool fad". I often see on Facebook Newport County fans bashing Cardiff City out of the blue, despite them relying on our loans (Rhys Healey/Tommy O'Sullivan). Just wondering if anybody else lives in Newport and has noticed this, and does this happen in any other regions in South Wales? (Maybe with Swansea City instead.)
Oh, and Facebook "Amber Army" for a good laugh and insight into what I mean.

I remember it very well, I was attacked on my own with a girl with me.
The hatred in Newport towards Cardiff is beyond, that day it was like everyone wanted to attack Cardiff fans, Corporation road was fighting for over an hour and police from all over were brought in to stop it.

So you are saying everyone of the 2000 people who support Newport hate Cardiff?.a fair proportion of that 2000 are children and oaps.

Merry christmas cunts.

You lot over Rodney Parade hate us, and even spend your Christmas Days having a pop, as I see loads of it on social media. Why do you always mention Cardiff City? I'll tell you what it is. It is small club syndrome. If it wasn't for Cardiff City helping you out down the years, you would still be in Non-League, where you will be playing next season ironically. The whole "Cardiff sold their soul" stuff is a bit rich, considering you guys allowed Jerry Sherman and Les Scadding to own your club. Enjoy your derbies with Wrexham and Forest Green Rovers next season.

We are flying at the moment, and look like we could win the league and get into the Welsh Football league Division Three. Fingers crossed eh?

The so called rivalry is one way and one way only. Other than one season in the Eighties when they bottled it, County have been and always will be an irrelevance to Cardiff City - both the football club and fans. Oh, and the City itself come to that. Although I will confess to cheering when I heard that Plymouth had denied them a pay day against Liverpool.
Counting the days until they go bust again, hopefully for good. Two thousand or so fans can't sustain a Football League club. Small time non-entities. Good riddance.

Silly rubbish by all, support Welsh teams irrespective of allegiance, banter is one thing hatred another I suggest you pop up to Glasgow on new years day to experience real hatred when the Gers take on the Celts !

So why are you registered on our forum, and why have you made soo many posts on here? Will you follow an English club again when/if you go bust? Lets face it, without us you'd be f##k all. You lot only have league football thanks to a millionaire (Les Scadding), and previously you all let your club die. The city of Newport is growing and has a lot more to offer, but the streets are blue, not Amber.

Bet percentage wise County have bigger local support than Shitty ... My guess would be around 85% who attend County matches are from Newport and 50% attending your matches from Cardiff , Rest from RCT (Inclusive of sheep) !

There is a reasom for that mate. By the way, winning 1-0 vs Portsmouth, hope you win. But the simple fact is, you lot are obsessed with us, for some reason (a lot of you, I don't want to generalise too much). I quite like Newport County, but a huge portion of your supporters are deluded.

It goes back to the 80's as Annis well knows, battles every other week regardless of matches. There was never that many but they had far more balls than Swansea despite small numbers. We then went in very different directions and they went bust in 1988. You could almost say there are more bluebirds in gwent than county, hardly anyone follows them, then only took 7000 to Wembley on there re intro to league football. Shocking support fir a shocking place to be honest.

Couldn't help but smile when I saw Pompey had gone 3-2 up, serves the fuckers right for their bitterness towards us!

I live in Newport and know the absolute jealousy that exists from County fans towards the Bluebirds. You actually feel sorry for them as they honestly believe Cardiff are their bitter rivals. Sad truth is Swansea and Bristol City are streaks ahead of them as rivals to Cardiff and several other clubs such as Bristol Rovers, Stoke and Leeds would come well before any thoughts about County.
They are a sad bitter little club who are left on the shelf without a rival to call their own

It doesn't matter how many lone wolves turn up on this message board with pathetic postings calling City fans tossers etc. they will continue to be overlooked because they are just too small to worry about.

Even if that was true just what does it prove? Even if you are correct then half of our 15000 crowds (7500) are from Cardiff. County get 2000 maximum and 85% of that is 1700 some 5800 less than City get, or to put it another way more than 300% Cardiff fans from Cardiff attend home games than Newport fans from Newport do.
So your point is a very poor one both mathematically and rhetorically.

You must be young ...County ran Shitty many times and the fans from 70s and 80s know it !

A bit of an odd thing really , first games I went too was Newport county with my Newport supporting dad , being a young one watching the county getting legged on a regular basis out of the Cromwell end by the likes of chesterfield , Swindon , charlton etc . To be honest it was the mad 1970s . So do have a soft spot for the club, got lots of genuine county mates who followed them up to Gloucester ,Morton in the marsh and back to Newport , I wish these chips all the best , but as for the other bandwagon jumpers who only went back to them when they came home fuckum .
In respect of the few County lads of the 1980s it was a bit lively as Annis says above every club has a handy dozen and anyone can come unstuck anywhere on the wrong day.
I'm old enough to remember regular tear ups in the stow away , ziggys wine bar and potters and of course the hall of fame even Cwmbran stadium not claiming any results but you win some you lose some . That was a hell of a long time ago and in the past we have all grown up and moved on .
I still look all the time for there results as I do for all the Welsh clubs , but count them as rivals ... no chance not anymore .
