Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City are plotting a move for Crystal Palace’s veteran goalkeeper Julian Speroni, according to a report by WalesOnline.

In a disappointing first half of the season, it seems that the Bluebirds have been unable to fill the void that was left when David Marshall joined Hull City.

With that in mind, Neil Warnock has reportedly identified the goalkeeping position as the main one that needs addressing in the January transfer window.

After a number of high-profile mistakes in an error prone Cardiff defence, questions have been raised about Ben Amos and if he is good enough to be their number 1.

In what could be a relegation battle for those in the Welsh capital this season, Warnock is thought to acknowledge that he needs a custodian that he can trust.

In recent reports, it has emerged that Crystal Palace’s 37-year-old Argentian goalkeeper who has fallen down the pecking order at Selhurst Park could be Warnock’s top target.

Having managed Speroni on two separate occasions at Selhurst Park, Warnock would know exactly what the stopper can bring to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Rather than a permanent deal, reports are suggesting that Cardiff City may opt for a short term loan until the end of the season, that will allow Warnock to address the problem properly in the Summer with a long term solution.

Warnock also explained that he does not expect to make any attempt to sign 37-year-old Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni.

Warnock has previously worked with Speroni when he was Eagles boss and has hinted that he could look to bring a goalkeeper to the Cardiff City Stadium in the January transfer window.

Cardiff sold captain David Marshall in the summer and replacement Ben Amos made a costly mistake in the 4-3 defeat by Barnsley.

But Warnock does not expect Speroni to leave Selhurst Park before he retires.

"Julian is a smashing lad, a really good goalkeeper, but he will be at Crystal Palace the rest of his career," he told BBC Wales Sport.

"He won't leave there. But there will be other names in the next few weeks."

be interesting to see how all this Amos stuff plays out. seems to me that its more a Walesonline campaign than Warnock looking at keepers.
