I am left of centre without doubt however I fully agree on reducing immigration particularly from countries and religions which are not in tune with our ways, democracy and culture.

I agree. We are not a multi cultural society, we are a country with different cultures living independently of one another. There is not a vast amount of integration going on, and a lot of people arriving here from overseas do not want to be part of the British culture, and have no intentions of integrating. Unless we can control who comes into the UK, it will all end in tears.

There is not a vast amount of integration going on, and a lot of people arriving here from overseas do not want to be part of the British culture, and have no intentions of integrating. Unless we can control who comes into the UK, it will all end in tears.

Merkel belongs to the CDU. That's not a left wing party. German capitalism needs cheap labour for their factories, etc. They have had Turkish 'guest workers' for decades. Germany's birth rate is very low, hence the need for more immigrants. Follow the money!

Correct they need immigrants but they need to close the boarders and pick and chose who comes in, not allow people from safe countries like Morocco and then give them asylum just to be humanitarian.

As a disclaimer I'm right of centre and I also voted to leave the EU. But fundamentally I think immigration is a good thing. However. It must be managed (I deliberately used that word). Firstly we have a socialised system for health care and education. Consequently budgets are set historically on tax take etc. It simply can not react to major changes in demand quickly. If for example we had private GP's the arrival of 1000 new people in an area would be good as it is 1000 new fee payers which would result in prompt appointment of new staff. That can't happen at the moment and it leads to some of the problems we have.

We MUST know who is coming and going. It's ludicrous to think otherwise. National and domestic security. Tax payers. Service planning. Housing. The list goes on.
We must also have the right to reject certain people such as law breakers both of our own and thei home
Countries. Why do we want violent criminals coming? We have enough home grown ones.

There is the obvious issue of forcing down wages which was capitalised on by certain political parties. I'd argue it isn't just low skilled workers but that is another discussion in itself.

That said. Immigration brings some wonderful people here. We are a wonderful country for welcoming people. My issue with the EU was it never gave us the right to be selective with people that happened to be born within the EU. This means convicted rapists from the continent have a legal right to be here but a first language English speaking doctor from Kenya for example is not allowed to stay.

Now I believe it is dangerous to blame this disgusting attack in Berlin on anyone until the authorities manage to capture the persons responsible. Indeed very often similar atrocities have been carried out by "home grown" people. However in principal it is very short sighted to have a completely open door. This is ripe for abuse. Maybe not now. Maybe not needy week. But maybe next year. The year after. If someone part of a sleeper cell sneaks in to Germany under the radar, how long until they are allowed full citizenship and thus freedom of movement?
