HOLIDAY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE GUYS

Sun Dec 11, 2016 9:30 am

Thinking of something a bit different next year a 10/11 day holiday driving in Europe.

Just me and Mrs no kids coming with us. A mixture of coast, lakes, countryside, towns etc preferably off the usual tourist track would be good.

Thinking maybe, Northern Spain, Germany or maybe Italy.

Anyone been? Any suggestions?

Sensible suggestions would be helpful please!!

I spent a couple of years working in Seville. So I got to know the area and I would recommend you do some homework around there as it is definitely different. Seville is a historic city to visit and its love of football is what impressed me. 9pm on a Saturday when I was practically out of my head after drinking all day is when their fans start coming out for the game. Eventually I managed to discipline myself to join their timeclock and go to a game in a proper state. It is worth the effort.

Outside of football as said the history of the city is worth exploring if you are into that. The cathedral area is worth a visit, take the metro. The area is where the university is and their building are not your purpose built contrapions you see today but very much part of its history. Also there are plenty of restuarants like any big city but these ones are different. A selection for all ages and differences espcially along the river that cuts the city into 2.

Finally you will be a short drive away from the national parks and coast. The coastlines are where the locals go for a break not your foreign lager louts. The atmosphere for such a location is a refreshing change, a breathe of fresh air. Also you are only 1 hours drive from the Algarve. Portugal. No customs to worry about unless you wake the guard up as you drive across the bridge.

Thats my suggestion.

If you stick to the local bars the costs are very reasonable plus for each pint you have you get a tapa which is like a local small food dish. Each pint you have comes with a different taste of tapa. It made me wonder just how they managed a variation of food tastes. We can learn a lot from them.

The main beer there was Esta 4 Star if I recall right. Very cheap and not bad tasting. However you will pay for the imports like Magner cider. A bottle of that cost £5 and that was a few years ago.

Hotels are fairly cheap at the moment. They are struggling to fill them. My advice is to search for a hotel outside the city such as a place like Bormujos. Guess you will hire a car so yes look outside the city. Even out on the outskirts you will have some interesting places to visit.

Croatia - beautiful countryside, beaches and islands plus historic cities & towns. Great beer, wine & seafood and cheaper than Spain, Portugal etc as not in the Euro.

And you can drive down the whole coast from Split to Dubrovnik; both beautiful places with lots to see in between - its not dirt cheap but always value for money. Additionally, from Dubrovnik its just a couple of hours to Mostar in Bosnia; a World Heritage site and Montenegro is an hour away, so could be a three country trip too.

Got to be the dalmation coast area of Croatia with it's beautiful coastline and islands. From Sibenesk to Trogir then Split and Dubrovnik. Visit the beautiful national park at Krka really stunning countryside, lakes and waterfalls.

It's cheap as chips to eat out in Croatia, currency is the Kuna not the euro and the Croatian people are very nice. A must visit country with a nice climate.

I wouldn't say its cheap as chips, but certainly cheaper than places in the Euro zone. Stunning country.

Slovenia-its between italy & croatia.population about same as wales 2.5 million and my opinion is its "wales in the sun".people are very patriotic ,although didnt end up in the battlezone when yugoslavia broke up as virtually all population are ethnic slovenians and proud of it-so nothing to be gained by serbia/croatia taking over.Although a small country it has a number of geographical temperature zones-the coast is mediterranean hot & sunny-but northwest borders austria i think & is is alpine-while northeast borders hungary/serbia ?? cold winters.Fantastic caves-we went down one apparantly largest cave system in the world that is open to public-27km of tunnels with an underground tram to take you around-we stayed on coast and you can do venice on a day trip-but if youve got a car can visit mountains & lakes in the north.Importantly if on a budget like we are-beer & grub reasonable & hotels cheap away from coast..locals mostly leave their doors/cars unlocked so for me this says it all.
