The Devastating Story of ' The ill-fated Chapecoense Real football team '

Chapecoense Real, A Team That Defied All Odds Even As Their Story Ended In Tragedy this week.

The ill-fated Chapecoense Real football team were about to complete a fairytale ending, but fate had other plans.

It was a story from unknowns to being would-be South American champions.

The LAMIA charter plane went down near Medellin late Monday with 81 people aboard and so far only six are reported to have survived. At least two were said by officials to be football players.

For the Chapecoense Real team the disaster means the cruel end of a story that had been meant to climax with an unexpected chance for glory on Wednesday against Colombia's Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final.

"The pain is terrible. Just as we had made it, I will not say to the top, but to have national prominence, a tragedy like this happens. It is very difficult, a very great tragedy," club vice-president Ivan Tozzo told SporTV.

Only a few years ago Chapecoense was just another gritty outfit in the Brazilian lower leagues, where players, unable to afford cars, took the bus to training. The stadium in Chapeco, a city of 2,00,000 people in the southern Santa Catarina state, didn't have a gym.

The Brazilian side lost a number of players in a plane crash in Bolivia earlier this week

Cardiff City fans will show their respect and unity with Brazilian side Chapecoense ahead of their match with Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

There were 71 fatalities when a plane carrying the players, coaches, and club staff from Chapecoense football club crashed in Bolivia earlier this week.

Six people survived the crash, including three Chapecoense players, which is believed to have happened due to fuel exhaustion.

As a mark of respect, and to show their unity with Chapecoense football club, Cardiff City fans will take part in a tribute during the 71st minute of the Brighton match in memory of those 71 people who lost their lives.

Fans pay tribute to the players of Chapecoense Real at the club's Arena Conda stadium in Chapeco
The club have also confirmed that they will be holding a minute's silence prior to kick-off.

Chapecoense were en route to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana, the South American equivalent of the Europa League, when their plane crashed.

They were due to play Colombian side Atletico Nacional in the final on Wednesday, but the match has now been suspended. The Brazilian FA are hoping that Chapecoense will play their final league fixture later this month as a tribute to the players who lost their lives.

What's the 71st minute thing gonna be? Is it a minutes applause from the fans or is there an actual organised thing from the club?

Minutes applause I'm guessing. And I hope everyone joins in and make sure the minute silence is passed on to late arrivals who we can hear coming in when done in the past

No need for a minutes applause really if we are having a minutes silence.

Remember, think about, pray for them in the silence and then let them rest in peace.
