This is the shocking CCTV footage showing Port Vale fans fighting rival supporters in a town centre.
Police have released the footage to The Sentinel after nine Vale fans were sentenced in court for their part in the trouble.
It captures violence erupting in Market Place, Burslem – between The Leopard and The Saggar Makers pubs – ahead of a League One match against Barnsley in September 2014.
At one point an advertising board and other missiles are thrown, while some fans are punched and kicked as shocked bystanders watch on.
around a dozen police officers swiftly arrive on the scene. In all, the incident lasted around eight minutes.
DCI Ricky Fields, of Staffordshire Police's force safeguarding and investigation team, said the investigation had been 'painstaking' and 'meticulous'.
He added: "A great deal of time and effort has gone into ensuring these offenders were brought to justice and I'm pleased they have finally been convicted.
"Football is a game watched by adults and children alike. It is wholly unacceptable that so-called fans use violence in the name of football.
"As a force we are determined to tackle the problems caused by individuals who behave in such a disgraceful manner and who ruin the match day experience for genuine fans.
"Spectators have the right to feel safe when they go to a football match and, working with the football clubs and our partners, we will do our utmost to stamp out the element that can't behave appropriately."
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the Vale fans acted 'like a pack of animals' after becoming embroiled in the organised street battle.
One of the Vale supporters had organised the showdown after exchanging text messages before the match.
Police separate Port Vale and Barnsley fans in Hamil Road, Burslem, after the match in September, 2014.
Ringleader Elliot Jordan, aged 24, of Endon Road, Norton, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was handed a 20-month prison sentence and a six-year football banning order for planning the fight.
Seven other Vale fans also admitted violent disorder and were handed suspended sentences and community service. And a ninth defendant pleaded guilty to a public order offence and was handed a four-month curfew.
Sentencing the men, Recorder Michael Elsom told them: "One eyewitness described your actions as acting like a pack of animals, which having viewed the CCTV footage is an accurate description and not belittling to animals."
Ally Simcock, Vale supporters' club chairwoman, today insisted hooliganism was not a big problem for the club.
She said: "It is disappointing when violence rears its head, especially when it's my club. However, I think we have the same proportion of fans who look for trouble as any other team.
"It's not an issue for Port Vale particularly, but obviously it is still an issue, as it is for any club. It is a shame, because people remember the bad things rather than the good.
"As a fan base we need to try to move away from the yob culture and remember matches are meant to be an occasion for the whole family. Maybe we can all learn lessons from this and use it to make positive changes in the future."
Six Barnsley supporters were also convicted in connection with this incident at a hearing on November 24.
